Learn How To Trim Your Hair Quickly And Easily By Yourself

How often do you get a haircut? Haircuts are expensive. Unless you want some fancy new do, you can easily learn how to give yourself a trim and save yourself a ton of money.

You can easily maintain your hair and keep it looking neat by trimming off any split ends every few weeks, extending the length of time you can go between salon visits.

A woman’s haircut will usually run you upwards of 30-40 dollars on the cheap side and most likely more at salons. It is recommended that if you are trying to grow your hair out, or even just maintain a healthy length, that you should get your hair trimmed every four to six weeks. That can end up being a lot of money!

I’m not saying that you should never pamper yourself or get a proper haircut every couple of months, but there is a way for you to sustain your cut yourself and enable you to start booking your hair appointments further apart.

If you are only looking for an inch or two of hair cut off, it really doesn’t make sense to shell out 50 plus dollars to get the job done. DIY haircuts can be a disaster, but don’t let your inexperience stop you from giving this simple method a try!

I don’t recommend trying this, though, if you are trying to cut off major length from your hair. This method works best to trim the dead ends and keep your hair looking healthy and full. Practice makes perfect! Start out slow, with just a bit of hair and you will start to get the hang of it!

Essential Equipment

First off, go online or to a beauty supply store and get yourself a pair of professional scissors. Depending on how much you’re willing to spend, you can also buy directly from a professional hair tool site. Wherever you choose to shop, make you to pick out a good pair of professional quality hair scissors.

Trust me: you do not want to try out your first DIY haircut with a pair of paper shears. You are definitely likely to end up with uneven and bluntly cut hair if you try to use a regular pair of scissors.

Professional hair scissors are extremely sharp and specifically made to get a clean chop on your hair. If you are going to start trimming your hair yourself as a way to save some money throughout the year, an investment in some professional hair scissors is a must! Make sure to read the customer reviews, which are usually helpful when making a decision on which scissors to buy.

Hair Cutting Tutorials

Before you do any cutting, I suggest you watch a quick tutorial on how to trim your own hair. I found, through trying different methods over time, that the ponytail method is the easiest and most accurate method. There are plenty of methods out there, though, so choose whichever one of these is easiest for you! There are endless tutorials available.

The Ponytail Method

It is very important to prep your hair before you start chopping away. Do what a stylist would do in a salon: make sure that your hair is washed, conditioned and not tangled. Typically, you would do the ponytail method with dry hair, but if you are going to trim with wet hair remember that wet hair stretches and appears longer, so be very careful to cut a little longer than you want it when wet so that it is not too short when dry.

If you are worried about cutting unevenly or messing up your hair, I would definitely suggest the ponytail method. It is extremely simple and will yield great results. Put your hair into a high ponytail on top of your head, brush it straight, ensure that your hair is tangle free and carefully trim into the ponytail until you achieve the length you desire.

When you’re finished trimming, if you find that the ends are too blunt or straight for you, take the tips of your scissors to the very bottom tips of your hair and cut lightly and quickly in upward motions to blend the hair a bit more.

Trimming your hair also means that you can choose the amount of hair to trim off. So, if you’re like me, there are no more fears that all your hair growth progress will be chopped off at the salon! Remember that you can always cut more hair off, but you can’t reattach hair once it’s cut. So, go slow, trim upwards into your hair and not straight across because otherwise you will end up with a very blunt and uneven look.

This is a big money saver, and it will help you to grow your hair out faster and keep it healthy and strong! You can learn to maintain and keep your hair healthy without a trip to the salon each month.
