6 Steps For A Perfect Night Skin Care Routine

Before you head to bed, make sure your night skin care routine includes these 6 important steps for waking up with amazing skin.

Aging is a fact of life, so it’s a smart idea to start caring for your skin while you’re young.

Everyone wants to have radiant skin with a youthful glow, but not all of us know what to do. So, to help you get started as early as today, we’ve rounded up six of the most effective night skin care routine tips that will give you soft and beautiful skin the moment you hear your alarm ring in the morning.

1. Embrace double cleansing

If you wear makeup every day, you surely know how stubborn it can be to remove before you go to sleep. This is even a bigger issue when you use makeup (including eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara, and foundation) that lasts for 12 to 24 hours (most makeup actually).

They don’t dissolve easily with regular soap and water.

With this said, take inspiration from the Korean skincare experts: double cleansing. Here’s how it works: apply an oil-based cleanser to your face followed by your preferred gentle and light facial cleanser to make sure your skin is free of any residue and hidden grime.

You’ll be surprised how easy your makeup will be to remove without leaving any trace when you wake up the next day!

2. Never sleep without giving your skin some moisture

Instead of using a regular skin moisturizer, use an overnight hydrating mask. It will soften the appearance of your fine lines (if you have any), and make your skin soft and supple. Your skin will stay hydrated even as you sleep, making you look radiant the following morning.

On the nights you’re not using a mask, use hydrating and rich night cream, which is better than a daytime moisturizer in nourishing your skin while you sleep.

If you want to additionally feed your skin, include serums, oils or special toners before putting on the cream, but make sure you choose and test the right type for your skin.

3. Exfoliate twice a week

Exfoliating helps to rid your skin of any dead cells that have built up over the week. While it can be done any time of the day, adding it to your night skin care routine is highly recommended since you’ll be sleeping, thus giving your skin time to relax.

It’s best to exfoliate on nights near your day off and on your actual days off so you don’t hurry the process.

Use circular motions on your face to turn it from dull to radiant. You can use an acid-based cleanser or one with salicylic acid (if you have skin that’s prone to breakouts). Then, use your moisturizer after to replenish the moisture lost during the process.

4. Do some steaming

If you have time and money to get a facial regularly, then go for one every four weeks. However, if you’re lacking one of the two, then opt for a steam. Here’s how you do it.

Just expose your skin to the steam from a hot shower so your pores will open up. Don’t let it come in contact with the hot water though, so you don’t suffer from burns. Do this once a week.

Another way you can do it from the comfort of your home is by getting a towel and soaking it in hot water, or putting it in a microwave. Squeeze the towel when it’s a suitable temperature, and then pat it gently against your face. This also opens your pores so your skin gets treated with the deep cleanse it deserves.

5. Sleep on your back

While it’s hard to control your sleeping position sometimes, try not to sleep on your side or your stomach as this can leave marks on your beautiful face by the time morning comes.

It can also place unnecessary pressure on your face, which can eventually lead to wrinkles. So, the moment you jump into bed, make sure to sleep on your back and avoid turning from one side to the other.

Aside from avoiding those indentations on your face, sleeping on your back prevents fluid from accumulating under your eyes. Thus, you avoid not-so-appealing eyebags and puffiness when you wake up.

You can also invest in some quality silk pillowcases. They collect less pore-clogging bacteria, and they are also better in locking up moisture in your skin than good old cotton pillowcases.

6. Get quality sleep

In the midst of the many things you need to do in life, it’s easy to forget that your body deserves enough rest, so make sure you get your beauty sleep every night.

While the recommended number of hours is eight each day, you know that’s just not possible all the time. Strive to get at least six hours when you’re really slammed at work. It should be enough to allow your body to rejuvenate.

As with other things in life, achieving youthful and radiant skin doesn’t happen overnight. You have to care for your skin each day and make it a way of life.

Yes, it can be a struggle sometimes, but when you give your body the treatment it deserves, it will give you the rewards that you seek. So, keep these six things in mind and start living by them today. You’ll thank yourself (and us) when you reap the amazing results!
