Miranda Mendoza – Slashed Beauty

Miranda Mendoza

1 . How would you describe yourself using only 11 words?

Hard working, beauty obsessed, animal lover, focused, feminist, adventurous, creative, silly, dreamer, optimistic, traveler.

2. What is that “special touch” which makes your blog unique?

What makes Slashed Beauty unique is that I’ve focused on budget beauty almost exclusively from day one, talking about how to achieve the latest trends with affordable products and how to score on high end beauty for less. I started the blog when I was a college student, looking for any way to stretch my dollar without sacrificing my love for makeup.

3. Exclusive tip or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

One of my best money – saving beauty tips is to return makeup you don’t like, or that doesn’t work for you. Yes, it seems awkward, but most beauty retailers will take back even used makeup— including drugstores! Don’t waste money on something that disappointed you! Find something that works instead of letting a bottle of  wrong shade foundation sit in your drawer forever. You wouldn’t believe how many people hold on to products they don’t like, letting the cost go to waste.

4. YouQueen’s Random Question: Your Favorite Quote?

“If you’re going through hell, keep going” – Winston Churchill

Jamie Stone – Honestly Jamie

Jamie1-112

1 . How would you describe yourself using only 11 words?

Fun, loyal, creative, smart, loving, adventurous, passionate, interesting, caring, daring, sarcastic.

2. What is that “special touch” which makes your blog unique?

I’ve always felt that my blog is successful because I’m 100% authentic. That’s really the only way it works for me and the only way that I’d have it. I have a beauty PR/marketing background so I bring a unique perspective to my reviews and tutorials.

3. Exclusive tip or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Always stay true to who you are – people can see right through you when you’re trying to be something that you’re not.

4. YouQueen’s Random Question: What makes you feel good?

A lot of things, definitely, but I find that volunteering has really brought me the greatest joy. Working with at-risk teen girls really puts a lot of things in perspective since I really believe that being grateful is the true key to happiness.

Deepica Mutyala – Deepicam

1 . How would you describe yourself using only 11 words?

Bold, dreamer, optimistic, loud, passionate, loyal, creative, analytical, driven, agile, perfectionist.

2. What is that “special touch” which makes your blog unique?

I’ve worked in the beauty industry on the corporate end for 5 years and had the chance to work with some of the best makeup artists and hair stylists in the world. Being around them, I learned so many fun tips that I hope to simplify for the everyday girl. I want women to realize that beauty doesn’t need to feel complicated – it should feel fun!

I also hope that my followers see that I truly am passionate about what I do and that I genuinely love engaging with them. Being south Asian, I never thought a career in the online space was possible. I mean, I was trained to be a doctor my whole life (my dad is still secretly hoping it happens) – my supporters keep me positive and going for my dreams.

3. Exclusive tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

My biggest beauty advice is to try not to conform with the looks you see everyone else is doing – take those looks & and create a version of them that feels true to you. When you wear something you’re comfortable in, it’ll show in your confidence.

4. YouQueen’s Random Question: Where would you go in a time machine?

1920’s…I love the fashion of that era! Dressing up as a flapper would be so fun!

3. Exclusive tip or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

One inexpensive tip my readers have really appreciated is to use OCuSoft Lid Scrub Eyelid Cleanser. These individually wrapped, moistened pads are fabulous, not only for removing eye makeup, but also for exfoliating the tender skin around your eyes.

They were recommended to me by my ophthalmologist years ago, and I have used them ever since. You won’t find a more effective eye makeup remover.

4. YouQueen’s Random Question: What do you like and what do you hate?

I like kindness, particularly to animals and people who need help. I hate false accusations, hateful behavior, and partisan politics that keep us from doing great things.

An important tip for having healthy skin is to make sure to completely remove your makeup before you go to sleep. No excuses! And authentic natural beauty begins from the inside ~ out, so you must make sure and drink plenty of filtered water, green and herbal teas and coconut water for hydration.

Every morning I have a nutrient packed breakfast shake and fill it with organic kale, wheatgrass and frozen or fresh blueberries for the antioxidants and chlorophyll. The nutrients good for your health will automatically be great for your skin.

Beauty is not about mere appearances. True natural beauty is cultivated from the inside~out. The more you show WHO you are, the more beautiful YOU will be.

Kim Do – The Makeup Blogger

1 . How would you describe yourself using only 11 words?

Authentic, humorous, curious, aesthetically-inclined, self-aware, creative, vibrant, savvy, grateful, aspirational and well-travelled.

2. What is that “special touch” which makes your blog unique?

During my college years, I wandered from my post in the Nordstrom Young Mens’ department to the Makeup counter, where I dipped my fingers into makeup testers.  Mesmerized by the magic of makeup, I never looked back.

Upon moving to New York City, I worked on the faces of John Legend, Anne Hathaway, and Katie Couric.  I also assisted legendary makeup artist, Billy B. While freelancing for CBS, I powdered the most famous face of all: Barack Obama.

As a makeup artist and the new Chief Editor of themakeupblogger.com, I aspire to create a unique online colony for women to explore the complex notion of beauty and makeup application.”

Sienna Sisi Lala – Modern Beauty Girl

modern beauty girl

1 . How would you describe yourself using only 11 words?

Loyal, creative, driven, enigmatic, social, optimistic, energetic, independent, honest, funny, sincere.

2. What is that “special touch” which makes your blog unique?

My “special touch” is that I am currently a college student, so I feel really in touch with a lot of teenagers and young adults that read my blog. My posts are really casual and my tutorials are all quick and simple because I understand that people are busy and don’t have time to do complex looks in the morning. I’m untrained in cosmetology, so I try to keep my posts conversational because my readers and I are growing and navigating the world of beauty and fashion together.

3. Exclusive tip or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

I have oily eyelids and I spend half the year in Hawaii where it’s humid and hot all the time, so I struggle with regular mascara transferring to my eyelids. My tip is to apply a coat of regular mascara then add a coat of waterproof mascara over the top.

The waterproof mascara acts as a shell on the outside, preventing mascara transfer, while the regular mascara is right on your lash, so it’s super easy to remove at the end of the day! No more worrying about not removing all of the waterproof mascara or spending a lot of time struggling and accidentally ripping eyelashes out!

4. YouQueen’s Random Question: Your perfect weekend?

My perfect weekend would be during the summer when I’m home in Hawaii! I would go to the beach early in the morning to watch the sunrise, then go to brunch with my friends to eat a huge acai bowl! I’d have all my friends over for a little party and to play games (we’re obsessed with Mario Kart and Spot It!) and talk, then go to the mall for dinner and try on ridiculous clothes and take tons of pictures!

Jane Cunningham – British Beauty Blogger

Jane British Beauty

1 . How would you describe yourself using only 11 words?

Excitable, cynical, sensitive, imaginative, enthusiastic, perceptive, cheerful, optimistic, temperamental, competitive, impulsive and thrill-seeker.

2. What is that “special touch” which makes your blog unique?

I really try and tell it how it is and relay the difference between hype and reality. I’m not afraid to call a product out if it doesn’t perform as expected. I send out frequent posts per day – up to five – and rarely schedule anything so you see it as I say it.

3. Exclusive tip or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

If you’re having a hard time getting up in the morning, tip a few drops of your favorite energizing aromatherapy oil onto a damp washcloth and lay it over a radiator before bed. As your heating kicks in in the morning, the fragrance will bloom into your room – it’s a perfect start to a good mood day.

4. YouQueen’s Random Question: How do you define success?

I’m a Capricorn so we are destined to perceive that we never succeed! We just get to where we think we want to be and realize that actually our goal is higher. I think success is a changing thing. You can measure it in money, in assets or in family and friends, and its sense of importance shifts as you go through life.

Success means different things to different people, so I’d say there is no exact definition of success, but if you’ve achieved a feeling of well-being, contentment and balance in life then you’re a winner.

3. Exclusive tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

You can make almost any product for your skin or hair from all natural ingredients. Since homemade products often don’t contain the same powerful preservatives as commercial products it’s important to treat these recipes with extra care.

Make your homemade lotions, scrubs, and other homemade products in small batches so they can be used up quickly and remember to refrigerate anything that contains water or milk.

4. YouQueen’s Random Question: Your favorite essential oil?

Right now we are loving Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood Oil. We carry an organic variety that has a rich, woody aroma with subtle notes of sweetness. This exotic essential oil is a sustainable alternative to the more widely known Indian Sandalwood which is becoming exceedingly rare.

Sandalwood makes an incredible addition to aromatic blends – lending deep base notes that complement everything from florals to citrus. It also works quite well in skin care recipes for dry, sensitive, and combination skin types.

We are interested in what makes you feel happy and glowing from the inside out.

3. Exclusive tip or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

I never go anywhere without a facemask. Anytime I travel, I make sure that I pack at least one mask for every night that I am gone. I’ll usually bring a jar of the Tata Harper Resurfacing Face Mask and a few Korean hydrating sheet masks or the SK-II sheet masks with me on my travels to keep my skin looking dewy and amazing.

4. YouQueen’s Random Question: What is your favorite lunch?

My favorite lunch is probably the kale and raw salad from Barney’s (which is raw massaged kale, julienned celery, carrots, fennel, raw beets, green and yellow zucchini, raw local mushrooms) and a glass (or two) of wine. I stick to a mainly vegan diet, and I am super healthy, but I always love a good glass of wine ;-)

3. Exclusive tip or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Always wear a sunscreen! It may not be sunny outside, but your skin still needs SPF protection. There are so many high quality sunscreens on the market that will not disturb your makeup, and that offer UVA and UVB protection.

The key, of course, is to reapply your sunscreen every 80 minutes. This will prevent your skin from prematurely aging, and will reduce your chances of getting skin cancer.

4. YouQueen’s Random Question – If you can donate a million to charity, what will be the cause?

I would donate it to Santé D’Or Foundation, a not-for-profit animal rescue organization, in Los Angeles. It is a volunteer-run animal rescue and adoption center that rescues animals found on the streets of Los Angeles, and they accept animals who are surrendered by LA residents who are no longer able care for their animals.

It is a wonderful organization that saves countless precious lives, and they are very deserving of financial donations.

Fran Kerr – High on Clear Skin

Lili Light-9660

1 . How would you describe yourself using only 11 words?

Passionate about healing and natural beauty through rebalancing the body.

2. What is that “special touch” which makes your blog unique?

High on Clear Skin is a unique beauty blog because it focuses on healing the skin by rebalancing the body from the inside out. In my consultation work most of the focus is on diet, lifestyle and herbal supplementation to achieve clear skin.

And my philosophies on external skin care are based on raw, natural and very basic organic ingredients only – it’s very simple!

3. Exclusive tip or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Most chronic acne in adult women is a hormonal issue – but you need to first figure out why you have that hormonal imbalance in the first place. In most cases hormonal acne is caused by stress or poor diet, coming on or off synthetic birth control, a sugar/carbohydrate sensitivity, adrenal fatigue or a thyroid issue.

Good external skin care will help, but you need to get right down into the core of the issue to get a cure.

4. YouQueen’s Random Question: What advice would you give to your teenage self?

Don’t take it all so seriously. In fact, that’s what I would tell my younger adult self as well. Beauty comes from the inside out, so how we feel about ourselves and how we feel about the world reflects on our skin.

There is so much choice and worry in life, so many different paths to choose and options to take, so much depression about the past and worry about the future. My advice to my teenage self is to relax and enjoy all of it, to take it all in and to have fun with life in every moment… to basically not take it all so seriously.
