What’s more, according to a recent survey, lipstick is effective in helping women climb the career ladder as it makes us appear more competent! Basically, lipstick is kind of a big deal!
However, staying on trend is no easy feat! Unlike celebrities, we don’t have access to the very best makeup artists in the world. Plus, the new ‘in’ lipstick colours seem to come and go so fast that your new lipstick can be out of fashion before you’ve even removed it from the packaging!

Orange is definitely the ‘in’ colour for spring 2014! First seen on the spring runway shows last year, orange lips have now taken the leap to the red carpet with numerous celebrities embracing the tropical hue!
Miranda Kerr paired orange lips with apricot cheeks at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party and has been spotted wearing it casually around New York City too! Lupita Nyong’o also wore a bright mandarin lippy at the 2014 Oscars and, let’s not forget beautiful Kate Bosworth who was seen with tangerine lips at both the Art of Elysium red carpet and recent Tiffany and Co. Blue Book party!

From crimson pinup to blackberry vamp, red lipstick always has and always will be on trend for everyone!
While we all know that Gwen Stefani and Miley Cyrus have a particular love for the brighter red lipsticks, not quite as predictable were Blake Lively’s gorgeous raspberry lips at Gucci spring 2014 and Drew Barrymore’s beautifully bright cherry red lipstick at the Golden Globes!
A deep red lipstick that almost verges on black is particularly popular with Khloe Kardashian right now! She was seen most recently at Elton John’s Academy Awards Viewing Party wearing a distinctively ‘vampish’ shade of red. Similarly, Kerry Washington wore a beautiful dark berry lip colour to the Oscars and Bobbi Brown’s new girl Kate Upton rocked Bobbi Brown’s Lip Colour in Blackberry to the MTV Movie Awards a few days ago!

Complimentary to almost every skin tone, purple lipstick is an up-and-coming trend this year in pretty much every shade from lilac to plum, and of course it hasn’t gone unnoticed in LA….
Young actress Victoria Justice recently posted a photo to Instagram of herself wearing a beautifully bright purple lippy after saying she wanted to “take some more makeup risks.” Singer Lorde was also sporting a noticeably deep plum colour at the 2014 Grammy Awards back in January.

The queen of lippy, Lupita Nyong’o flaunted her hot pink lips at Marie Claire’s Fresh Faces Party earlier this month while Emma Stone sported beautiful bright pink lips at the London premiere of The Amazing Spiderman 2 (I have to say the red hair, yellow dress and pink lips made for a surprisingly pretty combination!)
Pastel pinks are also on trend as always! Jessica Alba chose a very subtle pink at the MTV Movie Awards while Kaley Cuoco looked beautiful with pale rose pink lips at the Authors Anonymous premier in LA. Even Miley Cyrus briefly switched from her signature red to a more demure shade of pink on her Bangerz tour!
