Fashion 101: What To Wear With Leggings

We’re going back to the fashion basics. Are you wondering what to wear with leggings? The colder weather is upon us, but look no further because the answer is right here.

When it comes to fashion, you always have your basics. We have the classic tee shirt and then we have leggings. The great thing about basics is that they go with everything.

The bad thing about basics is that… they go with everything. We’re bombarded with a million choices so how do we choose what looks best?

Another problem with basics is finding ways to dress them up. They’re the perfect tool for dressing down, but with a few great pieces, you can give your basics a look of their own.

If you’re creating the perfect pieces to a wardrobe, there’s no chance that you can miss owning a pair of leggings. Not only are they comfortable, but they’re versatile. If you’re wondering what to pair your leggings with, check out our tips below!

Oversized sweaters

One question you’ll come across when you’re dealing with leggings is to show the booty or to not show the booty? More often than not, I think the answer comes out to not show the booty.

One of our favorite ways to cover up is with an oversized sweater. Not only are they perfect for the fall season, but they give your cheeks just enough coverage to avoid the judgmental looks!

Often times our leggings can be thin and won’t protect us from the cold, so adding a bit more warmth on top can help balance it out. Oversized sweaters work well in layers and even better when paired with leggings.

Ponchos

A more stylish alternative to the oversized sweater, a poncho will keep you warm and fabulous. Another great item for layering, you can get away with wearing a sweater or shirt underneath it.

While plain black leggings are probably the most common, they can quickly be seen as mundane and plain. By pairing it with a poncho, you’re able to spice up the outfit and give it a different look.

For an even more fall-appropriate look, you can opt for dark blues, reds, and plums in your poncho theme. Lastly, ponchos will enhance your look with the asymmetrical hemline so you’ll get the coverage you want with the warmth and a dash of flair.

Flats

Before you fall into the really cold months of fall, you can still enjoy the warmer midday weather. For a dressier look to leggings, you can pair them with flats. If you try pairing your leggings with heels, you might notice your outfit is falling a bit short.

Pairing pumps with leggings might be too far of a reach, but flats are the perfect alternative. They’re dressier than sneakers without the appearance of trying too hard.

Sneakers

If you’re going for double the comfort, why not settle for pairing your leggings with sneakers? Whether you’re running errands or headed to the gym, this is one pairing that can’t go wrong.

Often times when we’re searching for workout pants, we see the most colorful leggings and that’s when it’s time to ditch the classic black. Sure, you might want them for running errands, but colorful leggings will help you feel good while you’re on the path to looking good!

If your wardrobe is filled with colorful leggings, choosing neutral sneakers like blacks, whites, and greys will help pull the outfit together seamlessly.

Uggs/combat boots

Hopefully, you didn’t think you could only bring out those colorful leggings for a trip to the gym! As the weather becomes cooler, if you still have the question of what to wear with leggings, just answer with your favorite pair of boots!

Chances are you’ve hopped on the Ugg boot trail and that is one item you can definitely expect to see paired with leggings. Just like in this picture, we see classic black leggings paired with Ugg boots.

You might prefer to keep your look a bit more edgy, and if you do, you can always choose to pair your leggings with combat boots. A staple in the fall and winter months, you can either choose the classic style or go for the 90s favorite – Doc Martens.

Over the knee boots

If you’re looking to slay this season, you can’t do it without a pair of over the knee boots. While you might catch your favorite celebrities rocking them with bodycon dresses, they work perfectly when paired with leggings.

In the colder months, we need the leggings for a bit more warmth and coverage, and if it’s too plain for you, the right pair of boots will help slay the outfit.

Leg warmers

What are leggings without the leg warmers? Like I previously mentioned, sometimes leggings don’t provide all the warmth that we want. We’re pulling all the 80s vibes with this trend.

When you’re deciding on what to wear with leggings, you can almost always count on leg warmers being a part of the answer. Unless you’re wearing sneakers or flats, leg warmers can be paired with any boot that you choose.

While the growing trend has shown them with combat and Ugg boots, you can also find them being worn with knee high and over the knee boots. While most leg warmers don’t reach that high, you can opt for the leg warmer bands that are more for style than warmth.
