4 Tips on How to Walk in High Heels

Most women have that one perfect pair of high heel shoes in their closet. Unfortunately, many of those women’s catwalks are everything but perfect. Don't worry, only a few steps stand between this moment and you drawing all the attention in your most seductive pair of heels. Here's how to walk in high heels like a pro.

All you need to begin this short course in walking in high heels, is one solid and comfortable pair of shoes, some practice and lots of positive attitude. No need to hurry, you won’t be late anywhere – give yourself time. Let’s have a look at some of the most typical mistakes ladies make while walking in high heels

1. Unstable Ankle Joints

The best exercise for this problem area is taking turns in standing only on one leg. First try right, then left leg while you’re doing something with your hands, like texting, or correcting make up. This way you’ll develop better sense of balance and you won’t veer as much.

2. Stiff Knees

This is a common mistake that makes you look like you’re hiding stilts under that dress. For a softer, more elegant walk, you need to loosen up your knees. Not too much, though. Pay attention on how your knees react when you’re wearing sneakers, that’s what we are aiming for. Soft, but reliable.

3. Walking on the Tip of Your Toes

Besides looking funny, this will introduce you to painful blisters. Leave sneaking techniques to ninjas and walk using solid normal size pace.  Always stand on your heel first, then toes. Walk with one leg in front of the other, like Marilyn Monroe. That will give you the sassiness. Don’t struggle – let the rhythm of your natural pace lead you.

4. Don’t Lean Back

The trick in self-confident catwalk is activating your abs! This will stabilize your lower back. Straighten up, push your breasts forward and shoulders backward, level your head with feet, and look right in front of you.

The first thing you need to get used to is transferring your weight to the fingers. You need to be aware of this before the volume of pumps embarrasses you in public. To get a sense of what it’s like to be in high heels, we suggest practicing in the privacy of your home – walking on your toes wearing stockings or simple socks.

Practice until you get used to transferring the weight of your body to fingers while you walk. Try balancing while walking; this exercise will help strengthen the ankle joint, which is your best companion during the day spent in high heels.

Once you have mastered this type of stroke, it is time to climb the high heel. For starters, we recommend that your choice falls on a normal heel. It could be the ‘cat’s heels’, whose height ranges from 3.5 to 5 cm. Day spent in these heels will give you a good sense of what it is like to spend a day in high heels.

Before moving on to a higher heel, it is necessary to prepare yourself in the interior of your home, before you open the door and meet the world in the same shoes. One way to prepare for walking in high heels is to prepare the joints on a treadmill. Put on the shoes and stand on the conveyor belt.  Program the treadmill to move at low speed.

Grab hold of the handrails while walking in order to help you keep your balance while walking. After you easily managed walking at minimum speed, increase it. Be sure to hold hands on the handles so you don’t slip or fall. Once you have mastered walking in heels on a treadmill, it’s time to walk in them around the house, down the stairs and across different platforms. Walking on the floor is different from walking on carpet, concrete, or linoleum. This will grow self-confidence. Nothing is worse than walking in high heels when you have blisters.

Congratulations! Now you’re ready to go! However, we suggest a short walk around your house surroundings before going to the city. This will introduce a sense of how it feels when you stamp on mud, or run into a crack in the concrete – all the things you can’t experience at home. For starters, avoid wearing heels for long outings. Remember, you can’t take them off when your feet start to blister or produce some other discomfort.
