Extremely Good Low Sugar Desserts

If a part of you is all about sweets and treats and another part of you makes you feel guilty if you don’t watch the calories, no worries – you won’t have to deal with that whole internal struggle anymore. Here are some delicious, low-sugar desserts you can make.

From now on dessert is no longer a guilty pleasure! Add these super easy and quick recipes for fat free, but still beyond delicious, desserts to your cook book. Indulge yourself in a dessert frenzy – almost entirely sugar free!

1. Low Fat Blueberry Bran Muffins

Low fat, healthy and yummy – can it get any better than that? Ugh hardly… These are as delicious as regular muffins if not even more so!

Ingredients (for 12 muffins):

  • 1 1/2 cups of wheat bran
  • 1 cup of nonfat milk
  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of blueberries

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Grease muffin cups or use paper muffin liners.
  3. Mix together wheat bran and milk, and let stand for 10 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, mix together applesauce, egg, brown sugar, and vanilla. Beat in the bran mixture. Sift together all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Stir into the bran mixture until just blended. Fold in blueberries.
  5. Scoop into muffin cups.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until tops spring back when lightly tapped.

2. No Sugar Apple Pie

Perfect for those who are trying to lose weight but crave little something nice and sweet and even diabetics!

Ingredients (for 8 servings):

  • 2 (9 inch) pie shells
  • 3 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 can of unsweetened apple juice concentrate, thawed
  • 6 cups of sliced green apples

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a small bowl whisk together cornstarch, cinnamon, and 1/3 cup of the apple juice concentrate. Set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan simmer apples with remaining apple juice concentrate until apples are tender (about 10 minutes). Stir in cornstarch mixture and continue to simmer until thickened. Remove from heat.
  4. Spoon apple mixture into the pastry-lined pie plate. Cover with top crust.
  5. Seal and flute edges. Cut steam vents in top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.

3. Low Fat Chocolate Cookies

Who says chocolate treats need to be fattening?

Ingredients (for 44 cookies):

  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/3 cup of canola oil
  • 3 egg whites
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 3/4 cup of packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 2 2/3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 cup of miniature semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the applesauce, oil and egg whites. Beat in sugars and vanilla. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; gradually add to applesauce mixture.
  2. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or until slightly firm.
  3. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonful’s 2 in. apart onto baking sheets coated with nonstick cooking spray.
  4. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven at 350 degrees F (175 C) for 8-10 minutes or until set.

4. Low Fat Cherry Cobbler

A perfect dessert to add to your diet many without feeling even a hint of guilt. Why would you? It’s very reasonable nutrition vise and simply delish!

Ingredients (for 15 servings):

  • 1 cup of fat free vanilla yogurt
  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 6 egg whites
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 can of reduced-sugar cherry pie filling

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat yogurt and sugar. Add egg whites; mix well.
  2. Combine flour and baking powder; stir into yogurt mixture.
  3. Pour into a 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan coated with nonstick cooking spray.
  4. Spoon cherry filling on top.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven at 350 degrees F (175 C) for 40-50 minutes or until filling is bubbly and a wooden toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
