2013’s Most Inspirational Movie Quotes

Film quotes have the power to make us laugh and cry, to make us believe and despair. They can also inspire us. Here’s 2013’s most inspirational film quotes.

Movies truly are incredible pieces of art. They have the power to make us feel every emotion in the book and entertain us for hours on end. They can pick us up when we’re feeling down, make us feel loved when we need it most, bring a smile to our faces even in our darkest moments and, of course, they can inspire us.

Inspiration in movies comes in many shapes and forms. We can feel inspired by a character’s situation and how they deal with it, we often find ourselves rooting for our fictional heroes and find the lessons they teach us stay with us long after the film is over. Perhaps the best and most memorable way movies can inspire us is through the spoken word-the lines our heroes say and what they mean to both them and us.

2013 has been an incredible year for cinema but alas genuinely inspiring films have been lacking. That’s not to say that they’ve lacked for inspiring lines however. There’s been hundreds, they’ve just gotten a bit lost amongst all the action and drama that’s been going on this year. Just to prove it to you, I’ve trawled through page after page of film quotes and found what I think to be some of the most inspiring quotes of 2013. Here goes…

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The Hunger Games is back with this phenomenal sequel and, though much of the film focusses on the oppression of the people in Panem and the peril of our Victors and their families, I think this quote is an absolute gem.

Primrose Everdeen: Since the last games, something is different. I can see it.

Katniss Everdeen: What can you see?

Primrose Everdeen: Hope.

That last word, spoken by the precious and somewhat delicate Prim, says it all really. Even in the toughest and most trying times, hope remains.

Jobs

Jobs is based on the life of Steve Jobs who passed away back in 2011. It follows him on his remarkable journey from being a college dropout to co-founding one of the biggest and most profitable companies on the planet. The film explores many of his philosophies on life and I think you’ll agree they’re truly inspiring.

Steve Jobs: The greatest artists like Dylan, Picasso and Newton risked failure. And if we want to be great, we’ve got to risk it too.

Steve Jobs: We’ve got to make the small things unforgettable.

Steve Jobs: Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently…they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Do any of these three quotes really need explaining? Steve Jobs lived a remarkably inspiring life and these quotes based on his philosophies truly do him justice.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Walter Mitty is a day-dreamer who spends his days living an anonymous life. When his job and that of his co-worker are threatened all that changes however. He embarks on a journey to fix things and soon discovers the world that lies outside his imagination, turning his life into an adventure more extraordinary than he could have ever believed.

Cheryl: Life is about courage and going into the unknown.

Whether you’re brave enough to embrace this quote and act on it or not, this quote is perhaps the greatest on this list. Life isn’t about sitting around and hoping something great comes to you, it’s about seizing the day and living life to the full.

Rush

Based on the 1970’s rivalry between Formula One drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauder, Rush explores the extreme highs and lows of living your dream and exactly what it takes to get there. (Spoiler alert!) Following a crash mid race that left Lauda hospitalized and in intensive care for some time, this inspiring quote was born.

James Hunt: I feel responsible for what happened.

Niki Lauda: You are… but trust me: watching you win those races, while I was fighting for my life, you were equally responsible for getting me back in the car.

I simply love this quote. On the one hand, while hearing it, you feel crushed for Hunt, knowing Lauda blames him for the accident, but you also can’t help but admire Lauda’s strength. Knowing his dream of winning played a massive part in nursing him back to health is simply incredible. It proves that we can overcome even the worst situations if we only believe.

Life is about living and exploring, it’s about seeing what’s beyond your front door. It’s about believing and loving, laughing and singing. Even if these quotes don’t inspire you to trek across the world as Walter Mitty did, I hope you take some solace in them. I hope that they inspire you to believe if nothing else and teach you how important it is to dream.
