It’s been seven long years but, finally, the one and only Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) is back on the big screen. No doubt we’ve all heard of the iconic Superman and his alter ego Clark Kent. He’s been the focus of comics, TV series, cartoons, books and, of course, many, many films but for the past few years he’s been laying low. Man of Steel revives the superhero and retells his tale from birth though to his early adult life.

After the destruction of his planet, Krypton, Kent grew up on Earth. Despite always knowing he was different and capable of great feats, he kept his powers a secret for fear of rejection by the humans. When Earth and humanity is threatened however he is forced to step up and grow into not only a hero but a symbol of hope for Earth. A must see in 3D!

2013 presented us with several superhero films but perhaps one of the best was Thor: The Dark World.

Set after the events of Avengers Assemble, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), heir to the throne of Asgard, returns to Earth when Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), his romantic counterpart who he’s not seen in two years, stumbles across an ancient and powerful relic, the aether. Her finding attracts the attention of the Dark Elves, a race who seek to plunge the universe into darkness, who are determined to take the aether no matter the cost. Determined to save not only Jane but the worlds he loves, Thor teams up with his treacherous brother, Loki, not knowing if he can be trusted, in a bid to vanquish the Dark Elves.

Filled with love, danger and phenomenal special effects, you’d be a fool to miss this action packed sequel.

Based on the novel by F. Scott. Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby promises us love, mystery and the most lavish parties fiction has to offer.

Having not long since moved to Long Island, Nick Carraway (Toby Maguire) soon finds himself invited to one of the spectacular parties of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo Di Caprio). Carraway is drawn into the lavish and luxury world of his host but soon realises that despite the amount of time he spends with the mysterious Gatsby, he still knows relatively little about him.

Doors into Gatsby’s past begin to open and both Carraway and the audience discover that his rich exterior and social facade are hiding a mix of obsession, passion and madness. When Daisy (Carey Mulligan), Gatsby’s old flame, shows up at one of his parties, his life once again has meaning. Their lives collide in a riot of colour and passion but from the very beginning their cards are marked and tragedy awaits them around every corner.

Whether you’re into action, romance or superheroes, there’s no doubt you’re sure to love one, if not all, of these hit films from 2013. Sit back, put your feet up and make sure you remember the popcorn as you relax with one of these spectacular movies.
