5 Good, Old, Inspiring Movies To Watch And Learn From

Are you sick of modern movies? If so here are 5 classic movies to take you back in time and teach you a little something about life…

I’ll be the first person to admit that I love modern movies. That said, I still love countless classic films. It’s hard to beat those movies you watched as a kid in the days before CGI and surround sound.

There’s just something about the way the picture flickers now and again, something about the cheap tricks and the way the sound crackles that I love.

Of course, those aren’t the reasons that people are still watching classic films today, however. They’re still watching them because they’re memorable – they’re full of stories that mean something with relatable, if somewhat cheesy characters, and even today classic movies are a great place to look if you’re in need of a little inspiration and a quick reminder about what matters in life.

Here are 5 good old movies to take you back in time and truly inspire you…

#1 The Wizard of Oz

I’ve no doubt that we all know the story of Dorothy, a young girl who’s magically swept off from her Kansas home to the colourful world of Oz.

In her journey to find her way back home, Dorothy meets all kinds of characters, good and bad and not all of them all that they seem.

While the concept of the film is slightly quirky when we look at the heart of it, there’s a lot The Wizard of Oz can teach us about life.

It teaches us to love our friends for who they are, to allow ourselves to dream, to find the power within ourselves and, of course, that there’s no place like home.

#2 Cinderella

Cinderella is likely another story that we’re all too familiar with – especially since it’s a story that has been re-moulded and retold countless times over the years. That said, it’s hard to beat the originally Disney film.

Cinderella’s story is perhaps one of the most inspiring tales there is and it teaches us that it doesn’t matter where we come from; as long as we have a dream and a little optimism we can always find our way to true happiness.

Cinderella is an incredibly humble character who’s always being put down by her family; yet, despite this, she remains kind and selfless, and proves that good things will come to those who wait.

#3 It’s A Wonderful Life

It’s a Wonderful Life is undoubtedly one of the best Christmas films going and probably will be for decades to come.

It follows George Bailey as his guardian angel grants his wish to see what his life would be life if he’d never been born.

I’ll not spoil the story for you if you haven’t seen the film, but I will say that things don’t quite turn out as George expected.

In this incredible movie we learn some hard life lessons such as the bad guy doesn’t always get his just reward but there are some truly inspirational messages in there too.

Most of all, we learn that each and every life has a purpose and, even if we don’t always see it, we are truly blessed.

#4 Gone With The Wind

Some 75 years later, Gone With The Wind is still a much loved classic film. It’s an epic romance set in turbulent times and, while it teaches us that there’s no such thing as a happy ending, it also teaches us about letting go of the past, never giving up, and learning to apologise for you mistakes.

It’s heartwarming and heartbreaking all at once and I’ve no doubt it will still be a much loved film even after another 75 years.

#5 Grease

And finally, on a lighter note, we have Grease, the teen musical that rocked a generation and that we’re still singing along to today.

While it may not be the first classic film that comes to mind when you think about inspiration, it teaches us a lot about friendship, what it means to fit in and being true to ourselves.

Coupled with some unforgettable songs, Grease presents a timeless story that is as inspiring as it is entertaining.

So there you have it – five good old movies that are sure to inspire you in one way or another. What are your favourite classic movies and why? I’d love to know, especially if your movie made the list!
