Motivational Songs for Women: Top 10 Power Tunes

Whether you're feeling down and blue and in need of a pick me up, or like you're on top of the world and want to sing at the top of your lungs, blast these awesome motivational songs for women and face life on your own terms!

Music can inspire us and change our mood in a matter of minutes. Just like some ballads can make you sad or nostalgic, these upbeat, inspiring songs can make you feel stronger, energized and ready for anything that life may throw your way. We give you our choices of the top ten motivational songs for women. You’ll notice that these have no particular order – we love them all equally.

Cher – “Strong Enough”

The indestructible lady of pop gives us a hymn of self confidence with just a touch of in-your-face guts. Cher’s song is about letting go of the past and finding within yourself the strength not only to move on, but to do it at a faster pace and with a smile on your face. Nothing says “You go, girl” like this tune.

Favorite quote – “She ain’t worth half of me, it’s true.”

Christina Aguilera – “Beautiful”

For those moments when you need reassurance, play this song and you will realize that life is worth living and can offer glorious things to those brave enough to embrace it. Paired with an award-winning video portraying people of different, and often ostracized, social groups overcoming their difficulties, it is the ultimate song about beauty coming from the inside and not letting people bring you down.

Favorite quote – “We’re the song inside the tune, full of beautiful mistakes.”

Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey – “When You Believe”

The two great voices of soul united in a song for the “Prince of Egypt” soundtrack, and they deliver a message of believing in yourself and seeing the good and positive in life and others. The powerful, goose-bump inducing rendition really makes the message hit home.

Favorite quote – “But when you’re blinded by your pain, can’t see your way straight through the rain, a small but still resilient voice says hope is very near.”

Madonna – “Express Yourself”

The queen of pop made this girl power anthem back in the Eighties, but it’s still considered an empowerment classic decades later. Madonna gets down to the point by delivering lyrics almost in the form of a manual, which I think is pretty neat. The message is – you deserve the best, don’t settle for anything but.

Favorite quote – “Don’t go for second best, baby.”

Irene Cara – “What A Feeling”

I love this awesome, powerful feel-good song from the Eighties! The video tells the story of hard work and accomplishment, and the song is about reveling in those moments when we feel like we could do anything. Even if you’re not feeling so hot, this song will awaken fond memories of times when you felt great and will give you a boost of happiness.

Favorite quote – “Take your passion and make it happen.”

Katy Perry – “Firework”

For those times when you feel like a light bulb that just went out, blast this song and find your inner spark again. Katy Perry’s song will lift you up and help you rediscover your inner light. If you’re feeling too emotional, it might be a good idea to skip the video, though.

Favorite quote – “You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine.”

Mariah Carey – “Hero”

Another powerful song about discovering your inner strength. The lyrics hit the nail on the head by telling you about patience, not giving up and hoping for a better future. Your inner hero is waiting, and Mariah’s song will let it get its say.

Favorite quote – “Dreams are hard to follow, but don’t let anyone tear them away.”

Beyonce – “Listen”

Beyonce gives us THE song about not letting anyone pull you down. The track was recorded for the movie “Dreamgirls”, and Beyonce will teach you about your inner Dreamgirl, the one who’s strong, confident and better off relying only on herself, than on someone else.

Favorite quote – “I’m more than what you gave to me, I found the voice you thought you gave to me.”

Louis Armstrong – “What A Wonderful World”

The only gentleman on our list made this ode to life back in the Sixties, and I think this is the ultimate evergreen song about just enjoying and celebrating life in all its aspects. Armstrong reminds us of all the things that surround us in all their beauty, and yet maybe we don’t find time to admire them in our busy lives. Take the time, it’s worth it.

Favorite quote – the whole song!

Gloria Gaynor – “I Will Survive”

This one is hailed as the number one feel good song for women. Gloria Gaynor explains empowerment to anyone who may listen, and insists that nothing can bring her so low for her not to be able to rise above it.

Favorite quote – “For as long as I know how to love, I know I’m still alive!”
