5 Tips to Make a Great Business Card

In corporate world, your business card can say more about you than anything else. You will be judged by the appearance of this little piece of thin cardboard and it needs to represent you in the best possible way. Find out about 5 tips to make a great business card.

1. The Information

The information on your business card is the core of the card itself. It should be clear, concise and consisted of your business information only. Your personal information has no place on your business card.

A good business card should contain clear information about you. Your name, your professional title and your business title are a start. They should be followed by your phone number, mobile phone number and e-mail address. If you have any other relevant professional information you think you should share, feel free to add it.

2. Business vs. Personal

A lot of people would like to squeeze in some personal information on their business cards. This is actually a wrong thing to do, because corporate world doesn’t really want to know about your personal life. I know that this may sound harsh, but it’s the way it is.

However, if you really want to have a card with your personal or home phone number or any other personal information, there’s a way. Simply make two cards – you will have one card with your business info on it and one with your personal info. Another solution would be to make one flip over card, but two separate cards are still a better idea.

3. The Appearance

Don’t choose too many colors or fonts that are hard to read for. You should incorporate company’s logo on the card and make all the information clear and easy to read.

On the other hand, it has been proven that red color on business cards catches people’s attention. You may want to add a small red detail on your card or have red color in the background. Still, avoid red letters because they are harder to reed than black.

4. The Style

Use your imagination when deciding the style of your business card. It all depends on the company you work for and its general style, but if you can choose a couple of things yourself, here are some tips.

You may add your picture to the business card, like an avatar. That way people will easily associate the name with the face. You can make a tactile detail that will make your card stand out. You can also change the shape, who says that a card needs to be rectangular. However, keep it the standard size so that people can carry it in a wallet. Otherwise, you’re risking a bunch of them losing your card.

Furthermore, if you don’t want to change the shape and the style too much, but still want your business card to be different, turn it vertically. Also, in case your work requires you to travel abroad and work with people from other countries, it is a good idea to make your business card bilingual.

If you prefer to do things yourself, there are several websites on the internet that can guide you through the procedure. Or, if it makes you feel more at ease, visit a nearby print shop and ask them to assist you in putting your idea into practice.

5. Decide on an Overall Feel

What do you want your client to see and feel when they first glance at your business card? Do you want them to think of you as professional or creative first, for instance? Playful or serious?

Experts advise limiting the background color of your business card to no more than two colors when it comes to successful design. You don’t want a variety of color patterns to distract someone who is looking at your card.

Follow these guidelines and you’ll be able to create a card that does all of that, and more.

Whatever you choose, remember that your business card can present you in the best and in the worst of ways. Choose a bold design only if you’re sure about it.  If you do choose a bold and unique style, you can find creative business cards collection here.
