7 Movies That Are Perfect For Rainy Days

Don’t be blue just because it’s raining! Slip on your onesie, grab the hot chocolate, and watch one of these perfect rainy day movies.

I don’t know about you, but I love the occasional rainy day here and there. Yes, I love the sun, I love roaming around in shorts and flip flops, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still enjoy those days where the rain pours down and everything beyond my window looks bleak. For me, rainy days equate to lazy days.

They’re the days where I don’t even bother to get changed out of my onesie, the days where hot chocolate and sweets make up the majority of my meals, and, most importantly, they’re the days where I can cuddle up under my duvet and watch a movie.

That said, here are the seven best movies that are perfect to watch on a rainy day….

#1 The Time Traveller’s Wife

Imagine being married to a man who could involuntarily slip through time at any second, leaving you alone, worried, and wondering if this is the time your husband won’t make it back…. That’s the life of Clare after she marries the love of her life Henry. Henry has a rare genetic disorder that causes him to time travel involuntarily, something which is frightening and often dangerous for him. If you’re looking for drama, romance, mild sci-fi, and more than a few heart wrenching moments then this is the film for you.

#2 How To Train Your Dragon

On a rainy day, few things are better than cuddling up with an animated film. How To Train Your Dragon is brought to you by Dreamworks, the creators of Shrek, and follows the life of Hiccup and, you guessed it, his pet dragon Toothless. There’s one snag however – in Hiccup’s Viking village, dragons are the enemy. If his people knew about Toothless neither of them would be in for an easy ride. The story that ensues is a bundle of laughs with an inspirational moral to go alongside it.

#3 Burlesque

Christina Aguilera and Cher head up this all-star, all-singing, all-dancing cast. Don’t worry if you’re not up for a musical number, however; Burlesque manages to keep a fine balance between the musical numbers and the actual story making for a fantastic, feel-good film. While the small town girl looking for success in a big city storyline may have been done countless times, Burlesque manages to refresh the tale and add in a few twists for a surprising rainy day movie.

#4 The Wedding Date

The Wedding Date is one of my all-time favourite films that’s perfect whether it’s a rainy day, sunny day, snowy day, or the middle of the night. The story follows Kat who hires Nick, an escort, to be her date to her to her sister’s wedding. Of course, things don’t go quite as Kat planned and soon enough she finds herself falling for her handsome piece of arm candy. The question is: Does he feel the same or are his feelings only part of the package?

#5 The Host

Based on the book by Stephenie Meyer, The Host is a thrilling sci-fi romance. After an alien species invades Earth, taking over our bodies, there are only a few pockets of human resistance left. The film follows Wanda, an alien, who’s living in the body of Melanie and documents their odd love-hate relationship and the complications that develop when they fall in love with the same man. Oh, and if you haven’t already done so,I highly suggest you read this book!

#6 Rush

If you’re looking for something a little less girly, try Rush. The movie is inspired by the real life rivalry between Formula 1 drivers Niki Lauda and James Hunt and promises two hours of thrills, inspiration, and drama. Oh, and did I mention that Chris Hemsworth heads up the cast?

#7 Megamind

Megamind is yet another animated film from the masterminds at Dreamworks and, while it may be aimed primarily at children, it’s a fantastic watch for the whole family. For once, it follows the story of the bad guy and not the hero, questioning his motives, his methods, and ultimately if he’s really as bad as he seems. Along with a story that will have you wanting to laugh, cheer, and cry, Megamind is voiced by an all-star cast and has an epic soundtrack too. Forget the kids; this is a movie any adult should have in their DVD collection.

The next time the rain pours hit play on one of these fantastic movies, cuddle up under the duvet, and you’ll find yourself quickly forgetting about your weather blues. Enjoy!
