10 Things That Cure Bad Breath

Ok, let’s face it – having bad breath is embarrassing. You don’t want people to need to stop breathing when you open your mouth, right? Well, here’s what you can do about it. There are many causes of bad breath, but also many cures. You are not a hopeless case; you just need to try one of these 10 things that are proven to cure bad breath.

1. Brush Your Teeth Regularly

Your mother must have taught you the importance of brushing your teeth regularly. She knew what she was talking about. Brush your teeth every morning and every evening. There are millions of bacteria that live in your mouth and getting rid of them with your toothbrush and toothpaste is the first step towards having a good breath.

2. Floss Regularly

Everyone knows how important it is to brush your teeth, but it seems like most people forget about flossing. And that’s a very big mistake. The toothbrush can clean only the surface of your teeth, not the space in between them. That’s where floss helps. Floss can remove all those little particles of food that get stuck between your teeth and can cause bad breath.

3. Clean Your Tongue

You must have heard how dentists recommend that you clean your tongue every time you brush your teeth. There’s a good reason for that. Actually more bacteria that can cause bad breath live on your tongue than on your teeth. Learn how to clean your tongue in 5 easy steps.

4. Drink Enough Water

Good hydration is not only important for your looks; it’s a key solution for bad breath as well. Bad breath is caused by bacteria in your mouth. Your saliva is what helps in washing those bacteria off. If your mouth is dry, you’re not producing enough saliva and you allow the bacteria to grow. Drinking enough water prevents this.

5. Quit Smoking

Smoking is the leading cause of bad breath among people. No amount of toothpaste can help with smoker’s breath. So I will say it clearly and only once – quit smoking! It’s good for your breath and it’s good for your health, and let’s face it “I can’t quit” is just an excuse not to even try. It’s not easy but it’s worth it.

6. Lower the Amount of Alcohol

Alcohol comes right after smoking as the second leading cause of bad breath. Not only that alcohol itself smells bad, it also dehydrates you. And, as it has already been said in tip No.4 – dehydration lets the bacteria in your mouth grow and gives you bad breath. Keep your alcohol to a minimum and remember that you need two glasses of water for every glass of alcohol you drink.

7. Watch Your Dinner Plate

We all know that certain food like onions, garlic and fish give bad breath. But did you know that cheese does too? And meat as well. Every food that tends to stick to your teeth and gets easily in between them is likely to give you bad breath. On the other hand, fruit and vegetables usually give you good breath – so make sure you increase the amount of those.

8. Eat Your Parsley

Believe it or not, parsley is one of your best friends when it comes to preventing bad breath. Chewing on a couple of parsley leaves after your meal does wonders. Include it, as well as mint and basil, in your diet and you will surely have a better breath.

9. Mints and Chewing Gums

Mints and chewing gums are a solution for bad breath just as deodorant is for an already existing bad body odor – pretty much not a solution at all. Mints and chewing gums can temporarily mask bad breath, but they do not cure anything. You should have them in your purse always of course, but you must not forget any of the other tips from this list.

10. Visit Your Dentist

Tooth cavities can cause bad breath without you even knowing about them. Sometimes your teeth start to go bad from the inside out, and it takes a lot of time before something starts to hurt you and raises the alarm. That is why you need to establish regular trips to your dentist – at least once a year, even better once every six months.

That’s all you need to know. Remember these 10 things and you will be able to cure bad breath.
