7 Reasons Why Your Skin Will Love Frankincense Oil

Frankincense wasn’t just a gift from one of the three wise men; it’s an oil that contains a number of health benefits—especially for your skin!

If you’re familiar with the story of the three wise men, then you would no doubt have heard of frankincense. In the Bible, it was thought to be a gift worthy of a king and was presented to Jesus.

This precious oil is also known as olibanum and is an essential oil used in aromatherapy. It is believed to boost immunity and to offer lasting relief from stress, anxiety and joint pains.

You can use the oil either by inhaling it or by applying it to your skin. In this article, we will look at how you can use frankincense oil for your skin.

Components

Frankincense Oil

Frankincense consists mainly of ketonic alcohol (otherwise known as olibanum), resinous matters and terpenes like pinene, camphene, dependence and phellandrene. Monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes are what make frankincense the super oil that it is.

Monoterpenes help to discharge toxins from your liver and kidneys. They also contain natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Sesquiterpenes have been known to stimulate the limbic system of your brain as well as areas responsible for growth like the pituitary glands.

1. Anti-Wrinkle and Anti-Aging

Frankincense helps to protect the skin cells. It was also found to reduce acne, lessen the appearance of large pores and prevent wrinkles. The oil is also ideal for tightening sagging skin, evening out your skin tone and for balancing your skin’s pH levels. It helps cells to fight free radical damage, thus preventing aging.

2. Scar Removal

Scars can be an embarrassing problem, and a lot of people opt for expensive treatments and even surgery to reduce the appearance of their scars. Fortunately, frankincense has also been found to lessen the appearance of unsightly scars. Regular application of this wonder oil on scars will cause them to fade. It can even prevent the formation of dark spots and help you to achieve a clear complexion. If you have stretch marks, apply frankincense regularly to help reduce their appearance.

3. Natural Disinfectant

Frankincense Oil

Frankincense has properties that make it an effective disinfectant and antiseptic. This helps to prevent contraction of skin infections. It can be used to clean wounds and sores. There are also some homemade soaps, washes and other lotions you can make with frankincense that will pamper your skin.

Face/Body Wash

Below, you’ll find a simple preparation to help you fall asleep and gently cleanse your skin. It can also be applied to your face to help remove black spots and other pigmentation. For this face/ body wash, you will need:

  • Frankincense Oil
  • Lavender Oil
  •  ½ TS Organic Coconut Oil
  • ½ ts Olive Oil

You will also need a bowl large enough to mix all these oils together. Add equal portions of frankincense and lavender. To make this body and face wash, simply mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and spread over your face and body.

Body Cream

There’s also a body cream you can make that helps you to reduce scars. The best part is that it requires barely 5 minutes to prepare. You will need:

  • Shea Butter or Coconut Oil
  • Jasmine Oil
  • Frankincense Oil

You will also need a small container or jar to mix the oils and make the cream. If you use shea butter, you will have to use a boiler or put a bowl in boiling water to melt it down. Wait until it has cooled slightly before combining it with the other oils. Once they are in the mixing bowl, stir until they have blended well.

Once it has cooled, you can apply it to your scars immediately. You can also choose to wait and use it as a cream. For this, place the mixture in the fridge. Once it has cooled, use a hand blender to whip it until it forms a smooth, white paste. This can be stored in a glass or plastic jar, and kept at room temperature to be used later.

4. Helps with Relaxation

One of the leading causes of skin deterioration is stress. Stress, lack of sleep and other related conditions lead to baggy eyes, dark circles and the formation of wrinkles. Frankincense helps you to relax. It opens your skin’s pores and lets your body reach its ideal temperature. This helps to relieve chronic stress. The more relaxed you are, the more easily you will fall asleep.

5. Mole Remover

Just a few drops of frankincense oil can help to remove scarring, moles, skin tags and warts as well. Applying a few drops of the oil regularly to your moles or scars will get rid of them.

6. For Shiny Skin

Because frankincense helps with cell regeneration, it helps you to attain supple and shiny skin. It also has properties that prevent cancerous and precancerous moles. Whether applied on its own or combined with another oil like jojoba or coconut, frankincense is amazing for your skin.

7. Immune System Boost

As we all know, the body’s immune system is responsible for keeping it free of infections. Infections can also affect your skin, leading to dry and undernourished skin, and can cause wrinkles and blackheads. Consider the following tips to add frankincense to your daily cleansing routine.

You don’t have to add frankincense to your bath gel or shampoo if you don’t want to. You could simply add a few drops to a wet washcloth and rinse yourself with it. This, when combined with the steam, will have a spa-like an effect on your skin, and you will be refreshed and relaxed.

Frankincense can also be used for a mini-facial. In a pot of boiling water, add a drop or two of the oil. Lean over it, and cover your head with a towel while breathing deeply.

So, there you have it: Seven reasons your skin will love frankincense. Additionally, this oil can be used to improve digestion, balance hormones, fight depression, reduce inflammation and treat gingivitis, bad breath, cavities and toothaches. Make sure to include this potent oil in your skincare and daily cleansing routine.
