Tips on How to Stop Biting Your Nails

Bitten down nails are not lady like, not to mention the fact that biting your nails is very unsanitary. We know that bad habits are tough to break but don’t you think it’s time? Follow our tips and kick this horrible habit for good!

The first thing you need to do is make a decision that your nail biting days are over and behind you. And make a conscious effort to stick to it! Don’t let it be like that time you said you’ll start your diet on Monday, or any time you said you’ll start anything on Monday. We all know those decisions don’t ever really work out. Do this for yourself starting right now, the only thing that’s holding you back is you!

Try and recognize what are the triggers to your nail biting behavior.

Do you tend to nibble on your fingers when you’re stressed, anxious, worried, sad, bored? Is it more like an involuntary reflex to a certain feeling or a situation or are you making a conscious decision to bite your nails? Once you think well about what it is that’s making you to do this it’s going to be that much easier for you to try and stop.

Get a professional manicure!

Jagged and bitten-down nails do not look appealing at all, so it’s reasonable that you don’t feel like you’ve got much to work with. But once you get a manicure and get a little taste of how pretty they can actually be when you take care of them you’ll want to have them look their best all the time. Plus, you’ll have to pay money for it, and biting them again would just mean you’ve taken you money and thrown it down the drain.

Keep your nails polished at all times!

I get that you think they’re too short and damaged to look cute with nail polish, but it doesn’t matter because they’ll grow out to a decent length in no time as long as you don’t revert back to the old habits! Having a nail polish with you as often as you can will help you get there. Forget for a second that they don’t look the way you want them to and play around with colors, embellishments and more, and soon they will look amazing and recovered!

Get yourself distracted from biting nails by keeping your hands busy.

Have something convenient that you can play with when you feel like you are getting nervous, like a rubber band or coins. Some girls even wear a nail file on them at all times because it’s definitely better to file your nails when stressed than to bite them off.

If you’re feeling like all of this isn’t enough to keep you distracted and determined there are always those nibble inhibiting products such as Bitrex that can be used as a quick fix, at least for the first couple of weeks while you’re still struggling with yourself. The point of these is to get your nails tasting very unpleasant and therefore make it impossible for you to put them in your mouth.

After a while of keeping this disgusting habit under control you’ll be able to tell the difference with your nails. That will be your sole motivation to keep at it, and have a perfect looking manicure at all times!
