How To Survive Stress At Work In 12 Easy Steps

Workplaces can be stressful, but they don’t have to be that way. Here is how to survive stress at work in several easy steps.

As the hardworking woman you are, you’re often bombarded with tight deadlines, fellow female co-workers trying to make your life a lot more difficult than it should be, managers who aren’t trained well enough to successfully lead teams and horrible bosses spending more time on the golf course than helping the business grow along with dedicated employees.

So, here are a few tips on how to deal with your current situation until the next great opportunity comes along—especially if you work in a close-knit office setting.

1. Prioritize and organize

Make a to-do list and prioritize tasks according to their importance. Break large tasks into smaller, more manageable tasks and schedule them throughout the day. This will help you feel more organized and in control.

2. Take regular breaks

Avoid sitting in front of your computer all day, trying to make the hours pass faster. Not only will the day seem longer, but you’ll end up doing more damage to your mind and health by staying seated on your tush all day.

3. Hydrate often

Forget to consume your eight glasses of water. Instead, drink as much as your body will allow. I find that the best way to ensure I stay hydrated is by keeping a bottle of water at my desk at all times. When I get bored or I’m in ‘thinking mode,’ I take a sip of water. It helps.

4. Listen to music

There’s nothing more soothing than putting in your earphones and listening to music—the kind that soothes your soul while everything around you is in chaos. It snaps you out of what may be going on around you, giving you some peace and quiet.

5. Eat a healthy lunch

Not only will you feel better about yourself, but you’ll feel healthier when you get home at the end of the day. Avoid unnecessary headaches, stomach pains and devastating weight gain by choosing healthy food over quick and easy junk. Remember to eat healthy snacks in between, but don’t skip on the treats every once in a while. If chocolate is your thing, indulge a little! Here are some ideas for a healthy office lunch

6. Get quality sleep

Sleep deprivation can cause all sorts of health complications—both mental and physical. If you’re working in a stressful environment, constantly being bombarded by mental attacks and work overload, make sure you get your eight or more hours in a night. You’ll feel much better in the morning.

7. Do constructive searching

This will not only give you a sense of accomplishment but help you to see the end of the tunnel. No person should be exposed to an environment full of harsh mental attacks and work overload to the extent of where you’re physically getting sick. So, make sure to keep an eye out for better opportunities while adapting these guidelines.

8. Practice your smile

Never let anyone steal your joy. You may be working in less than desirable conditions, and you may have a beautiful personality with a positive outlook, which is exactly why you’re being targeted. Always smile through it, regardless of how tough it may be. You deserve it.

9. Stick to your values

The one thing you should never let go of is your values, regardless of how badly you want to fit into the company culture. Besides, why would you want to fit into the crowd when your personality and values make you unique, giving you that extra bit of gumption!

10. Find your match

Often, there will be individuals just like you at your current workplace. They can be identified as the loners—in which case you most probably will be as well. Instead of sticking with yourself, why not find people like you to mingle with. You won’t feel too alone while you’re engaging with individuals who understand, and the conversation will do you some good.

11. Get into an exercise regime

The best way to get rid of stress, in a healthy way, is by incorporating an exercise regime into your daily life. Your mental, as well as physical state, will improve, and you’ll have a platform to get rid of some built-up frustration from work. Try an activity you enjoy and let the rest follow.

Remember, at the end of the day, nothing lasts forever. However, what you choose to do now will affect future decisions and opportunities. So if you’re in the position to learn as much as you can in your current position, take full advantage of it. See this as a major learning experience, where you have to accomplish a few important tasks in order for you to move on to greener pastures.

12. Create boundaries

Set clear boundaries between work and personal time. Avoid checking emails or taking work calls during your off hours and prioritize self-care activities such as hobbies, spending time with loved ones, and relaxation.

What you end up doing with your current situation all depends on you. So, make the best of each day and always remember: this too shall pass! IN the comments bellow, tell us, how to survive stress at work?  Do you have more ideas to share?
