How To Keep A Guy Interested In You And Have Him Hooked

Attracting a guy can be hard, but keeping him is often more of a challenge. Here's how to keep a guy interested in you once you're already dating.

For a long time, you watched him from afar. His bronzed body shone in the sun. His smile lit up the room. Eyes followed him wherever he went – both women and men alike vied for his attention. He laughed, he flirted and he politely answered when asked silly questions. His royal hotness was, or is, so hot that rumor had it he only dated models.

It was one day when you were alone. Clearing the table after a rowdy bunch of guys had been in the diner. He caught you off guard. He smiled, you melted. He asked for a burger and a coke. You fumbled around as you tried to hurry to please his every whim. It was a cliché scenario – one right out of the movies and worthy of a Hollywood rom-com.

He smiled cheekily as you spilled some of his drink on the table. He rushed to help you clear it. After privately scolding yourself, you managed to pull yourself together and apologize. He said, “No worries.” The time rolled by and he paid his bill giving you a generous tip and a crumpled up note: Call me!

You didn’t call. You thought it was some kind of joke. He turned up a few days later and watched you curiously. When you took his order, he asked, “Why didn’t you call?” That’s when it all started. You managed to land yourself one of the hottest guys around and he wanted you – all of you.

It’s all well and good landing that babe. It wasn’t even that difficult. In fact, he was the one who did all the work. You were so enigmatic that he was drawn to you. You’ve been dating for X number of months and you love him dearly. There’s only one thing that’s been plaguing you – how can you get him to stick around?

Here’s how to keep a guy interested in you:

1) How to keep a guy interested? Be interested yourself!

One of the best things that you can do to keep your guy keen and interested is to really take an interest in what he likes. Men love women who show interest in their passions because it shows that you’re interested in him. It shows your sense of loyalty towards him and perhaps most importantly, it may even give you some more time together. Showing your guy that you’re up for trying new things for him will make him see you in a different light.

If he has many hobbies or interests, pick one that you feel most comfortable trying out. If you’re afraid of the sea and he loves surfing, this is not ideal. However, it could be something as simple as learning to sit through the long and very ‘boring’ action trilogies he loves to watch.

When you can do things together, there’s more of an opportunity to bond. You will also earn more respect from him. He will be more willing to try things with you, too and he’s more likely going to keep coming back to you because he finds you interesting.

2) Show him what you do best

It’s not just about focusing on his interests and talents – you need to shine, too. You need to make yourself stand out from all the other women. If he’s really such a great catch, there’s going to be a line of women eager to date him.

If you have a talent or you do something particularly well, show him. It could be cooking up a storm in the kitchen like Martha Stewart. It could be taking the most stunningly beautiful photographs. It could be playing basketball. Whatever it is, don’t keep these things hidden.

He wants his woman to be wonderful. He wants you to be the envy of other guys (it’s the male ego thing). He wants to see that you have a passion. Having a passion for something shows that you’re outgoing and you’re an interesting person – two things that will make him want to be with you more.

3) Don’t take life too seriously

While it’s good to be serious sometimes, most guys want an easy girlfriend. Having a sense of humor is a huge thing if you want to attract a guy and keep him. You don’t have to be the next Ellen, but laughter in a relationship is a key ingredient when it comes to keeping your guy interested in you. If you’re able to make him crack a smile with your wit or dry humor, he’s going to be charmed.

When a couple laughs together, they’re able to bond more and there’s a higher chance he’ll stick around for the long run. If he finds you funny and feels at ease in your presence, he’s definitely going to find himself wanting to spend more time with you.

4) Be his pillar

Being his pillar of support is one of the most important traits that a guy looks for in a long-term romantic partner. Being caring and nurturing are two qualities he looks for in a potential wife. If you have these and display them through your support, you’re more likely have a long-term relationship with him.

By no means am I suggesting that you take on the role of mom – no, not at all. But you need to be there for your guy when he needs you – in good times and in bad. Celebrate his successes. Give him praise and encouragement. Listen to his problems and offer advice when required or needed. If you want him to be a permanent fixture in your life, you need to show him that you’ve got his back at all times.

5) Look after yourself

When women try to attract a man, they put in a lot of effort. Hair, clothes, nails… you name it, and they do it. However, once they get him, many of them stop making such an effort. In their minds, they’ve done all the work to land him and now they can relax a little more.

Okay, we know looks aren’t everything and guys who only go for looks are shallow and not worth dating. However, men want to know that you’ve made an effort to look good for them.

It doesn’t mean that you have to don a full makeup mask (men hate this anyway) every time you’re with him or prance around in your stiletto heels, but you should make an effort to look neat. In men’s minds, if you can’t look after yourself, you can’t look after them either and that goes back to the idea of the man wanting to be nurtured.

6) Having your own life

No guy likes to be smothered. Having your own life, friends and hobbies outside of the relationship is really important if you want to keep him interested in you. Men don’t like clingy women, so having a little of your own independence is vital.

While spending time together is important for your bonding, being with him 24/7 will just result in boredom and lack of interest. Besides, it’s fun to head out with the girls alone from time to time, and having your own life will give you both a lot more to talk about.

Don’t stop trying with your relationship just because you’ve bagged your guy. Keep working on it. Relationships need constant work if you want them to succeed.
