Europe’s Under-the-Radar Capitals: Bratislava

We continue with our presentation of Europe’s oft forgotten capitals. This time we will talk about the capital of Slovakia- Bratislava.

If you are thinking of treating yourself with a Euro- trip, Vienna will probably be one of the cities that will automatically find its place on your itinerary. Maybe an hour ride from there you’ll find another interesting capital. Take the time to visit Bratislava because it really is worth it.

It’s an Unusual Choice

You’ll likely be the only one of your friends who has been there. Not many tourists visit Bratislava because they can always travel to its more famous, and culturally richer counterpart- Prague. Others would rather spend an extra day in Vienna than consider a field trip to a relatively unknown destination.

Don’t be a typical tourist. Visit Bratislava as well. It’s relatively small and you can have the whole experience in not more than 2 days. The architecture resembles that of Prague and you will find a lot of things these two cities have in common.

Great Food

Slovaks have great cuisine. It’s based on all sorts of dumplings, sour cabbage and poultry. If you go for a traditional duck or goose meal you will think that this is the best-prepared poultry you have ever tasted. The portions are large and generous with various side dishes. All this goes well with a glass of nice red wine, or maybe a bottle of beer. For a proper Slovak dessert you will probably have to make a visit to somebody’s home, since those are mostly home-baked around Christmas time, and not easy to find in stores, bars and restaurants.

It’s Cheap

Bratislava is considerably cheaper when compared to other cities in the surrounding area. If you are looking for someplace where you can try out a lot of new things on a budget, this is the place to go. Now that you know that your trip to Bratislava doesn’t mean that you will have to spend a lot of money, there’s nothing to hold you back. Put this adorable town on your map!

It’s Romantic

Bratislava is in fact a very romantic town. Since it’s relatively small and not overrun by tourists, it gives you an amazing sense of peace and quiet, and, above all, privacy. If you are looking for a place to spend a romantic weekend in Europe with your loved one, we strongly recommend Bratislava. There you can find everything you need when it comes to couple-bonding-getaway, from romantic bars and restaurants, to nice and cozy hotels.
