Back in 2008, Jodi Ettenberg was still a lawyer working in Montreal. After years of saving, however, she asked herself why she was confining herself to one place and one job; why wasn’t she off seeing the world?

That moment was a turning point for her and she decided to pack her bags and leave her job for a year so she could see the world. Well, one year turned into two, then three, and now it’s eight years later and Jodi is a full-time travel writer who’s still hopping from one country to the next documenting her entire trip on her blog.

Here is what she asked herself just before she jetted off:

“There are always things I could do, so why not risk doing the thing I want to do?”

Having spent a summer in France in her teens, Toronto born Ayngelina expected to spend the majority of her twenties travelling. Life quickly caught up with her, however, and she found herself with a job, an apartment and a boyfriend who was dead set against jetting off.

This left Ayngelina with a decision ‘to either abandon the dream or do it alone. As you may have guessed, Ayngelina reached for her dream and for the past few years she’s been travelling the world and blogging her experiences on her wonderfully titled travel blog.

Here are her profound thoughts on taking the first step towards her dream…

“The fear was petrifying but it was not paralyzing. As much as I was afraid to go, I was more afraid to regret not going.”

Having watched her husband travel the world for his job while she stayed home, Geraldine considers being made redundant the best thing that ever happened to her.

She was finally able to accompany her husband around the world and as a result she started up her blog, so she could document their time together.

On the subject of her blog she says, “Yes, it’s a travel blog. But at its core, it’s a love letter to my husband,” so immediately you know her blog is likely to be as romantic as it is inspiring and useful.

Along with her husband, Geraldine has seen and done it all, and while she has tonnes of inspiring travel tips, this was by far my favourite…

Sleeping in while traveling is only acceptable if there is absolutely NOTHING better to do. In other words, it’s never acceptable.”

In the past three years Kate McCulley has travelled across 45 countries and established herself as a full-time travel blogger.

What started out as a six month adventure soon turned into a career and Kate insists she doesn’t plan on putting her feet back on the ground again anytime soon. With her blog, she aims to show women that it is safe to travel alone and encourages them not to be put off by any myths they’ve heard.

The world is what you make of it and she encourages women to explore.

“Life’s too short to have regrets. That’s why I like to live the most interesting life possible by travelling the world and saying yes to just about anything.”

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m well and truly inspired and wondering why I’m looking out my window at my hometown instead of staring up at the pyramids or trekking through the Andes.

These four women have proven that travel is the ultimate experience and that you need not fear going it alone. All you need is a dream, a good pair of shoes, and the drive to take the first step out your front door.
