It is a dream come true for travelers seeking natural beauty, outdoor adventures, and cultural experiences. From the majestic Swiss Alps to the serene lakeside towns, each destination offers its own unique charm.

While Switzerland is known for being a relatively expensive destination, there are ways to explore the country on a budget. Opt for budget accommodations, plan your meals at local restaurants, and take advantage of free activities such as hiking and exploring nature.

This country also hosts several summer festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, Zurich Street Parade, and Lucerne Festival, which showcase music, art, and cultural performances.

Here are top 5 places to visit in summer.

1. Zurich

Of course, a trip to a new country should start in its biggest city. If you’ve never been to Switzerland before, start your visit in Zurich. If you have already been to Switzerland – well, you know what I’m talking about.

Zurich is a beautiful city that offers a lot of interesting things to see and do. Start from the Old town and move your way slowly to the New. Stop for some fine food in one of over 1000 restaurants. Make sure you try the fondue, traditional Swiss dish made almost entirely from melted cheese. No counting calories while in Switzerland ladies, it is a home of Alpine chocolate after all.

Take a boat ride on the Zurich Lake and enjoy the stunning view. Choose between many museums and beautiful parks to visit. Don’t miss the Imperial Palace, it is a stunning sight to see.

Zurich is not all about the history and the sights; it also offers a busy and electrifying night life. There is a great number of night clubs to choose from and have a fantastic time. So, put your best clothes and a smile on and hit the clubs.

2. Matterhorn

Switzerland in summer

Switzerland is in the heart of the Alps after all and that means that there are some pretty amazing mountains you should see. My advice is to go see the glorious Matterhorn.

You’ve probably already seen the pictures of it but none of them can prepare you for the breathtaking sight of this amazing mountain. Standing over the town of Zermatt, it almost looks like a giant guardian overseeing the town and its people. You should, of course, visit the town as well but bear in mind that it is mostly a place for the rich and famous, so expect higher prices for everything.

Don’t be fooled in thinking that you could climb Matterhorn easily, even if you have experience. It is a mountain that should not be underestimated so climbing it is only an option for those with a lot of experience and courage. For all the rest of us, it is a view that will be carved in our memories for the rest of our lives. If you ask me, it is a true trade mark of Switzerland.

3. Rhine Falls

The amazing Rhine Falls is the most visited place in Switzerland. The largest waterfall in Europe, Rhine Falls is 75ft high and it has an avarage of 700 m³/s of water flow during summer. Rhine Falls is a sight you absolutely must not miss while visiting Switzerland in the summer.

The falls are located fairly close to Zurich. You can choose between a variety of boat rides to see them. You can find some additional information about boat rides at this link.

I don’t think that words can really describe the view or the feeling you will get as you approach Rhine Falls. It makes you feel so small in comparison to the awesome power of water and yet so greatful that you’ve had a chance to see it. Don’t miss an opportunity to visit Rhine Falls for the world – they are the best place to visit in Switzerland in the summer.

4. Lake Geneva

Nestled on the shores of Lake Geneva, Montreux is a charming town renowned for its picturesque landscapes and the world-famous Montreux Jazz Festival. Stroll along the promenade, adorned with colorful flowers, and soak in the serene ambiance. Explore Chillon Castle, a medieval fortress that has stood on the shores of the lake for centuries, or take a leisurely boat ride to enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

Located on the northern shore of Lake Geneva, Lausanne is a vibrant city that seamlessly combines history, culture, and natural beauty. Discover the charm of the old town, visit the Gothic Lausanne Cathedral, and explore the Olympic Museum, a tribute to the city’s rich sporting heritage.

5. Lugano

Lugano, often referred to as the Swiss Riviera, exudes a Mediterranean flair with its palm-lined promenades and vibrant piazzas. Nestled in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, Lugano offers a unique blend of Swiss efficiency and Italian charm. Explore the picturesque old town, indulge in some luxury shopping, or simply relax by the crystal-clear waters of Lake Lugano.

Switzerland is amazing during all four seasons but summer could be the best time of the year for a visit if you don’t really like cold weather and the snow.

Now you have the top 5 places to visit. I am sure that you will love them all.
