Hairstyles for Women Over 40

People age, and there is no denying that. You will age, and it’s not a choice. On the other hand, how you age is definitely your choice. Will you become vinegar or wine?

You should take care of your natural beauty – which will only shine out more if you take good care of yourself. The second best thing that will help a woman at any age look good is a good hairstyle. The first is, of course, good personality.

So, you’re having doubts on how to do your hair? Maybe we can help a bit.

1st Tip

There is nothing bad in being 40, unless you try to be 25. And let’s face it, your hair quality can only decrease after 25. In the good old days, ladies used to say that every 10 years, a woman should cut her hair for 10 centimetres. By the time you reach 40, your hair leingth shouldn’t be longer than a ‘bit over your shoulder. Keep it classy and neat – keep it short and sweet.

2nd Tip

If you’re having any trouble with wrinkles on your forehead, maybe you should consider bangs. They will hide the traces of ageing and are, in general, a great style. There are many versions of bangs – they don’t all come down to “the bad ‘80s”. Lately, sixties haircuts and bangs are quite popular – they are also very classy and stylish.

3rd Tip

Oh, yes, the terrors of gray hair!!! Don’t perceive gray hair as a tragedy. See them as an excuse for experimenting outside your natural hair colour. By experimenting, you might actually get a clue in what suits you best. Keep in mind that what might have worked for you 20 years ago, might not really work for you today. Skin pigments also change with aging, and you know that pigments in your complection and your hair have to get along.

4th Tip

The darker your hair colour is, the more it will accent your wrinkles and other irregularities that might have appeared, uninvited, with age. Experiment – but keep it a little bit lighter than your natural skin colour is. Plus, they do say gentlemen prefer blonds – if you’ve never been a blond by now, now is the time to experiment! Try to have fun with your hair and if possible – don’t dye your hair at home, as it is never a good idea. No magazine on earth or hair colour instruction knows what’s best for you better than a professional hair colourist and you know.

5th Tip

Now that you have a great cut and a great new hair color, it will take some growing into – no woman ever starts loving her new hair the first day. Give yourself some time.

Enjoy the change of a new cut, and a change of the new era of your life – because if you want it to be so – it might just be the best one yet. It’s all a matter of decision and now that you know better than 20 years ago, you sure are able to make the best decision you can.

Being 40 is a lot like being 20 – only twice as fun!
