How To Look Younger Than You Are

It is only natural to want to scream when you turn 35 or find your first gray hair. Unlike men, women rarely look better with age. Healthy living habits anyone? Here are some tips on how to look younger than your age.

It sometimes seems like Mother Nature is pissed at women. We have to deal with hormones, work, household, children and yet find the time to look good and, as if this is not enough, feel even better.  The older we get the more effort we have to put in fighting gravity. What if I tell you that you can look younger than you are without using plastic surgery?

I am not going to lie to you and tell you that you can miraculously look younger in a week or two. You have to invest some time. If you are 30 today and you start using these tricks and tips, I guarantee that you will look 33 when you turn 40.

1. Take Care of Your Skin

Since I was a little girl my grandmother was telling me to nurture my skin. She was a doctor so she knew what she was talking about.  What does this mean? Well, do not use any wrinkle face creams until you reach 30, not even then if you don’t actually have wrinkles. Do not use chemical peal if you have normal complexion.  Always apply SPF when on the beach. What you eat affects your skin. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

What we forget is that skin is an organ just like any other. You take care of your lungs by not smoking, your liver by not eating fat or drinking too much. Well, don’t forget your largest organ, your skin.

2. Hair and Nails

Healthy looking hair and nails add to your overall appearance. If your hair is shiny, always freshly dyed and nurtured, you will look younger.  Treat your hair with almond oil. I’ve written something about hair care on this website so you can check it out.

Your nails can tell a lot about your overall health (www.webmd.com). So, first attend to your health, then your manicure. Your feet and hands should always be tidy. It is important to stick to french manicure, beige or red nail polish. Do not experiment because you will look downright ridiculous with neon nailpolish. Age apropriate nailpolish please, thank you.

3. Weight Lifting

With age, our muscles lose their tone. We need to help them fight gravity. Weight lifting is the best way to regain your strength. As my fitness guru JNL says “Strong is the new skinny”.  Tone your muscles and your body will definitely look younger. Take a look at how JNL looks at the age of 37 (www.jennifernicolelee.com). You can also do her workout.  At the age of 34 I have a body of a 20 something college girl thanks to her.

Strong muscles will keep your body in place. Your butt will not hang around your knees, your abs will inspire envy, your entire body will look and feel younger.

4. Eat Healthy

Our hips store more and more fat as we grow older. This is because of the hormones. Add fast food, sodas and office chair to that and you will get one unattractive female body. What we eat affects our organs (this includes skin, hair and nails) just as it affects our weight. I am not saying you should give up a good glass of wine or a bit of dark chocolate. I am saying that you should eat healthy, nonfat, low carb foods most of the time.

Also, it would be a good idea to test your blood and determine what types of food you should avoid according to your blood type. This approach to a diet has given some amazing results.

I am not going to go on and on about what is good for you, if you are reading this you are old enough to know.

5. Make-up Tips

There is a chauvinistic, bust still a great joke about what God said when he created a man and a woman. God created a man, looked at him and said:”You are perfect”. Then he created a woman and looked at her and said “What can I tell you, you will have to use makeup”.

The right make up can make us look like a movie star. You’ve all seen movie starts with and without makeup. Basically, there are only 2 tips you should use when choosing makeup: use luminous (not shiny, these are 2 different things) foundations and eye shadows in natural colors. You should look naturally beautiful and effortlessly chic, not like you are 16.
