What to Wear This Season: Fashion’s Best Summer Trends

Fashion can be a real challenge to figure out, so here is a list of the top trends of this summer and how to wear them in a super stylish and personal way!

Every year the designers show us so many different trends and looks on the catwalks, that, when it comes to choosing what to buy for the summer, us “normal people” get so confused and don’t really know what is really on trend and what is actually already “so last season”.

Truth is, it is super hard sometimes to keep up with fashion, that is ever-changing and keeps going back and forth like a yo-yo.

Following the trends is certainly not something you must do, one does not need to go crazy each year in trying to work out the mystery of fashion and spend lots of money in new clothes that you will only use for a couple of months, but it is sometimes exciting and fun to add new elements to update your wardrobe!

It is nice to try out something different every once in a while and discover  new elements that you can add to your personal style.

In order to start following more the trends, one has first start to edit them taking into account one’s body shape and personal taste. What is the point in wearing something that you don’t actually like just because everyone does it?

Read magazines, blogs and, of course, this article and decide what could work on you and then go into a shop and try it on. Even if you are not 100% convinced about it beforehand, trying on things does not hurt anyone and you might be really surprised about the result!

So, without further ado, here are the top trends for this summer that you can try out and have fun with!

Aztec prints

Inspired by the pre-columbian empire, the aztec prints are geometrical and colorful patterns that this summer you can find literally everywhere, from dresses, to shorts, from skirts to accessories.

Use them with caution if you have a curvy body, as, if they are not in the right shape, they can enlarge you more. They are great to add some enthnic to any outfit and they are perfect for every occasion, even for work!

Also for your beachwear you can go for an aztec print maxi dress or caftan and, actually, the seaside is the perfect place to test these prints out and see if you would feel comfortable in wearing them also elsewhere.

Neon colors

Yellow, pink, blue or green, neon colors are for sure the protagonists of this summer! They definitely add an element of fun to every outfit and liven up every look.

I would not suggest wearing a whole outfit made up of neon color as, if you are not a fashion expert in mixing and matching different colors, you could turn out looking like a clown. Go instead for a simple and toned down outfit with just some neon accessories, such as a clutch bag, a pair of sandals or a necklace.

If you want to dare a bit more, you can also choose a neon tank top or skater skirt, but remember to keep all the other colors of the outfit quite neutral.

Lace shorts

Lace shorts are really feminine and cool. This summer you can get them in coral, cream, pink or white, but be careful if you have wide hips as they will tend to enlarge you even more and add bulk.

Wear them with a colorful outfit to make them more interesting and either keep everything feminine and soft or you can also go completely the opposite way and punk it up with some tough accessories to play a bit with contrasts.

Fringes and tassels

We have seen so much fringing in the latest summer festivals (and especially Coachella of course) that it has now also become a trend for the everyday life. If you don’t want to exaggerate or don’t feel totally comfortable with this look yet, you can just go for a fringed accessory.

Tassels are the new craze among designers so it shouldn’t be difficult to find something small with some fringing and also DIY bloggers have created so many tutorials on the topic that you can even make something yourself.

If, on the other side, you feel good about fringing already and want to wear it more, you can choose a fringed top or pair of shorts!

Crop tops

Directly from the 90s, crop tops are really back in great style. Not everyone might find them comfortable or to their taste and especially if you don’t have a great midriff you might feel embarrassed in wearing them.

Anyhow, if you feel like you want to give them a shot, you can wear them in a more covering version with a high waist skirt that will only reveal a small stripe of skin and look super sexy, or you can dare more with a pair of jeans or shorts.

Dungarees

Again from the 90s, these pieces of clothing seems to keep coming back from the past every couple of years.

You can wear them either in denim or in cotton, short or long and with underneath a crop top or a plain white t-shirt!

Midi skirts

Midi skirts are those skirts that tend to reach the middle of your calf, towards your ankle. They are in great fashion right now, which is fantastic because they are super sleek, chic and appropriate for literally any occasion.

You just need to avoid them if you don’t have really slim calves and long legs. You can wear them with a pair of ankle boots and especially with crop tops.

Stripes

Put on a striped maxi dress and you are immediately on vacation, no matter if you are actually still in the city jungle. This year the stripes are bold and horizontal, either monochromatic or white with another bold color.

It is renown that horizontal stripes tend to enlarge, but if you get them really big they will not have this effect!
