3 Popular Sweet Breakfast Recipes

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, don't skip it! Here are 3 sweet breakfast ideas to help you start your day with a smile.

I’ve recently read an article that said that you can actually lose weight efficiently if you eat a piece of cake with your breakfast. Let me tell you right away that I don’t really believe it, but on the other hand I do love something sweet for my breakfast. For all those of you who like it too, here are 3 popular and delicious sweet breakfast recipes.

1. Toast and Jam

heart-shaped toast with jam and a cup of coffee

The most popular sweet breakfast is toast and jam. I basically grew up eating this every day. Moreover, it’s the easiest breakfast you could make, and if you’re one of those people who like to sleep in and tend to be late, this is a perfect breakfast for you.

The only things you need to make this breakfast are a toaster, bread, butter and jam. Put a couple of slices of bread in the toaster and wait a while until they’re done. Smear a thin layer of butter on each piece and over it a layer of jam of your choice. I personally prefer apricot of strawberry.

Add a cup of milk, orange juice or coffee into the mix and you are ready for all the challenges that day will put in front of you. If you’re watching your weight, it’s best to choose whole grain bread, light butter and low fat milk.

2. Pancakes

Pancakes are among the  most popular sweet breakfast recipes. Who doesn’t love pancakes, right? Can you just imagine the smell of fresh pancakes in the morning? They do take some little more time to prepare than simple toast and jam, but they are worth it.

No matter if you choose American style pancakes or crepes, you will have a great breakfast. Have them with some maple syrup, or jam or nutella, or even make your own chocolate chips pancakes.

In case you will be in a hurry in the morning, you can make the dough an evening before, cover the bowl with a plastic foil and leave it in the refrigerator over night. It will be just fine in the morning and you’ll only have to bake the pancakes and enjoy your breakfast.

When it comes to the recipe – it’s quite simple – whisk together some eggs, oil or melted butter, flour, a pinch of salt and sugar, milk, water and some baking powder. The amount of the ingredients depends on how much pancakes you want. Fry in a pan with little oil and enjoy your breakfast.

3. Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are my favorite sweet breakfast. I fell in love with them when I travelled to Sweden in 2007 and since then I’m hooked. They are a traditional Swedish breakfast – a cup of coffee and a “kanelbulle” which is Swedish for cinnamon roll.

You will need some time to make your own cinnamon rolls, so plan to either get up earlier or to prepare the dough an evening before and then just bake them in the morning. You can also make a bigger amount and freeze them, they taste perfect when unfrozen and baked.

Ingredients

1 package of fresh yeast, 125gr of butter, 250ml of milk, pinch of salt, approximately 150gr of sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cardamom, 450gr of flour, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, some pearl sugar and 1 egg.

Melt 75gr of butter in the milk and leave it to cool down to approximately 37C. It must not be to hot or you will cook the yeast and spoil the recipe. Put the yeast in the warm milk and leave for 10-15 minutes until the yeast dissolves and foam creates. Add salt, half of the sugar and cardamom. Slowly mix the flour in with a mixer, until you get a dough that does not stick to your fingers. Knead the dough with your hands some more, return to the bowl, cover with plastic foil and leave at a warm place to rise for at least half an hour.

In the meantime, to make a filling, mix together the rest of the butter, sugar and cinnamon. You can taste this mixture while making it to see exactly how much sugar and how much cinnamon suits you best. Don’t melt the butter, it should be firm and it will slowly soften while you mixing it. It’s best to do this with a fork.

Once the dough has risen, flatten it until you get a 1cm thick rectangular sheet. Smear the filling across the whole surface of the dough and roll it up in a cylinder. Cut 1.5 – 2cm schnite and leave them to rise for another half an hour.

Whisk the egg and smear over each cinnamon roll and sprinkle them with pearl sugar. Bake for 10-12 minutes on 200C. Make yourself a cup of coffee and dive in a perfect delicious sweet breakfast.

So, which one is your favorite among these popular sweet breakfast recipes?
