Podcasts are great for so many reasons but with so many to choose from deciding what you’ll like can be a nightmare. It doesn't have to be that way however...

Podcasts are an awesome way to fill your time and fill the silence while you clean, commute, jog or do anything else for that matter. However, with millions to choose from sifting the good from the bad can be nothing short of a chore. Never fear, however; I’ve come up with this list of 10 awesome podcasts to which you should subscribe.

Whether you’re looking for something to feed your mind, make you laugh, or just something you can chill to there’s a podcast for you.

#1 The Infinite Monkey Cage

Hosted by physicist Brian Cox and comedian Robin Ince, this British chat show is perfect if you’re looking to learn something and laugh at the same time.

Each show lasts 29 minutes and during that time the hosts, as well as a varying panel of celebrities, cover a loose topic of scientific discussion (for example space exploration). Don’t be put off if you’re not very science-orientated, however; this show really is for everyone. The presenters cleverly manage to take a complex scientific topic and break it down into bite sized pieces, throwing in a lot of humour along the way.

#2 Stuff You Should Know

Let’s face it, we’d all like to know a little more about the world but there simply aren’t enough hours in the day to google everything. Thankfully, listening to Stuff You Should Know allows you to absorb all that knowledge while you exercise, commute or do almost anything else for that matter.

It might as well be guaranteed that while listening to every show you’ll have your mind blown with one incredible fact or another as over the course of the show topics such as celebrities, nature, space, TV and much more are covered.

#3 The Pod Delusion

This self-proclaimed ‘podcast about interesting things’ is sure to give you a new outlook on the world as it presents its cheerfully sceptical view on almost anything and everything. The presenters discuss incredibly random topics such as the rights of captive orcas to the history of video games, looking at them from a fiercely rationalist perspective and questioning everything. ‘Eye-opening’ only begins to describe this podcast.

#4 WTF with Marc Maron

I don’t know about you, but each and every day I have a ‘WTF’ moment. Thankfully, Marc Maron reminds me that I’m not alone in this as twice-weekly he records his podcast to point out some of the most incredible ‘WTF’ moments he’s ever experienced – something which is often as hilarious as it is unbelievable.

As well as being hosted by Marc Maron, the show often features a variety of celebrity guests.

#5 Who Charted?

Who Charted? is definitely the show to listen to if you’re looking for a few laughs while finding out anything and everything about what’s been happening in the music industry this past week.

Hosts Howard Kremer and Kulap Vilaysack play off each other as they talk, primarily focussing on the music charts but also throwing in a few movie opinions and rankings for good measure too.

#6 This American Life

This American Life is undoubtedly one of the best podcasts out there. Each show, host Ira Glass showers the listeners with first-person stories and short pieces of fiction from around the world, tugging at your emotions and making you laugh almost as often as you’ll cry.

Humans truly are wondrous creatures, which is something This American Life reminds us of.

#7 This Week in Tech

For those of you who have a love of technology, This Week in Tech is a must-listen podcast. The weekly show features a variety of tech lovers such as Kevin Rose, Patrick Norton, and Leo Laporte amongst others as they discuss what pieces of tech are trending and why, as well as how we can expect them to impact the modern world.

#8 This is…Interesting

Matt Miller, the host of this laughable yet thought-provoking show, is curious about absolutely everything.

On his podcast he talks about some of the most random yet oddly interesting topics out there, looking at things such as the Bible, Singapore’s healthcare system, and how rice is grown. I know, it doesn’t sound all that riveting but believe me after just a few minutes Matt Miller will have you hooked and questioning everything.

#9 Sound Opinions

Whether we love a song or hate it, we undoubtedly have an opinion on it, which is something the varying music critics who host Sound Opinions are more than willing to share.

For each podcast, they discuss all the music news while reviewing new releases and debating about the song itself and the artist. They cover all types of music, old and new, ensuring that Sound Opinions appeals to anyone and everyone.

#10 Risk!

Risk! invites both listeners and its special guests to take a walk on the wild side. Hosted by Kevin Allison, the weekly podcast features a variety of performers, writers, comedians, celebrities, and everyday people and listens in as they tell personal stories that they “never thought they’d dare to share.”

So tell me, which podcasts do you like the sound of and are there any you’re already listening to?

Hopefully you’ve found something on this list to feed your podcast hunger but if not don’t lose hope, there are millions of podcasts out there. Happy listening!
