I’ll be honest with you, I never really saw the point in cable. I work all the time anyway, so why pay for something I know I’ll hardly ever have the time to enjoy? Most importantly, why pay for something when there are a hundred channels and nothing on?
Well, I’ve fallen in love with my remote. One of the perks of being single is that I never have to argue over which show to watch, and let me tell you why that’s awesome. First, there are actually a lot of good shows out there that I’ve been missing out on and second, I have come to realize that as much as I love a good book, I REALLY love popcorn and television. So, here is my top ten list of must see shows, just in case you didn’t know they were out there.
#1 Sherlock
If you’re into crime novels and classic characters, then this is definitely the show for you. I’ll be honest, I didn’t think I’d care for it at first. Sherlock Holmes has never been my thing. After watching this Victorian character in a modern setting (and Benedict Cumberbatch was certainly easy on the eyes), I came to realize I’d misjudged this show. It’s highly addictive and once you start watching it, you won’t be able to stop. Besides, if you’re a Doctor Who fan, then you’ll recognize Steven Moffat’s work on this one.
#2 Almost Human
It seems like I can’t get away from the new Star Trek stars. Almost human stars the very sexy Karl Urban (Bones from Star Trek) as Detective Kennex and Michael Ealy as his sidekick, a cyber-cop who is intelligent and has more emotions than he probably should. This is almost like a futuristic Hill Street Blues, and I have to say, be prepared to get addicted! Even though you can miss an episode or two and still know what’s going on, this is one show I really hate missing. It’s that good!
#3 Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Even if you’re not a superhero comic book nerd like me, then you’ve got to give this show a try. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D stars Clark Gregg as the much loved Phil Coulson who survived his death in the Avengers movie and is now part of a special S.H.I.E.L.D team that works to solve highly unusual mysteries. His team has the lovable scientific geniuses Fitz-Simmons, the somewhat frightening woman they call “The Calvary”, Skye (an adopted part of the team), and Agent Grant Ward (a sexy, but alpha loner who sometimes has a hard time being part of the team).
Think of it as the A Team meets the X-Files. It’s that awesome.
#4 The Fosters
This television drama is all about a same-sex couple who struggle with their biological and adopted family. There are secrets, attractions, sometimes a little frightening abusive situations to deal with, and if you’re looking for drama, then this show has it.
#5 Supernatural
I know this show has been around for a while, but I’m just getting the chance to watch it and I have to say it’s amazing! I understand why this one is on its ninth season. Here you have two very sexy opposite brothers who travel as demon hunters. It’s sexy, it’s scary, and I bet you can’t watch just one!
#6 The Tomorrow People
When the tomorrow people was first advertised, I thought it would be cheesy. To tell you the truth, I only turned it on because there was nothing else on TV that night. Now, I’m glad I did. This show is fantastic! This is all about a group of people who have genetically evolved with psychic abilities.
Because they’re so rare (and in some cases dangerous), they’re being hunted by a group called Ultra who uses those with power for their own personal gain. It’s a very fast paced show and one you have to keep up with, but it’s certainly worth watching.
#7 The Witches of East End
Are you stuck on reruns of Charmed? If so, then you need to start watching The Witches of East End. Not only do you get your feel of crazy with curses and estranged magic, but there are secrets in every shadow, sexy love triangles, and excellent acting (after all, this has Julia Ormond and Madchen Amick, two very talented women). I actually took the time to DVR this series as it was on, and a few episodes made me cry! You know it’s a good show if it makes you cry.
#8 Super Fun Night
If all you have is a half an hour, then you definitely need to see Super Fun Night! Rebel Wilson and her two girlfriends will remind you that no matter how uncool you are, you still have a place in this world. It’s quirky, it’s funny, and I haven’t seen an episode I didn’t like.
#9 Modern Family
Ed O’Neill has gone from average guy in “Married with Children” to super sexy older husband in this one. If you think you have a dysfunctional family, then you haven’t seen this show. While my family doesn’t always have a happy ending, this show puts normal to the test, and Mitch and Cam say things that we all WISH we had the guts to say out loud. This is one of the funniest shows on television (and I’ll watch it for hours at a time). You’re going to love the Pritchetts’.
#10 Reign
If you love time period shows, then Reign is one you must see. This fabulous drama based on Mary Queen of Scotts will keep you on the edge of your seat. While there’s always a history lesson to be learned, you’ll be far more enchanted with the secrets of the court in this show, and the costumes are breathtaking! This is one you have to watch!
Instead of flipping through the channels, go ahead and give one of these shows a try. Some are older than others, but they’re all worth catching up on! Tell me, what is your must see TV list?

Why isn’t the Middle on there it is the best TV series ever made, much better than Modern Family!!!!
