3 Ideas to Throw the Best Dinner Party

Throwing a dinner party is a little bit different than throwing a regular party, mostly because of the food part. While you can serve simple finger food at a regular party, you need to put some extra effort for the dinner party. Here are 3 ideas that will help you throw a great dinner party.

1. Prepare the Food Yourself

If you’re already throwing a dinner party, you should really prepare the food yourself. After all, the whole party is about the food. You will need a lot of time and effort, but good things don’t come easily.

The dinner for your party should consist of three courses – appetizers, main course and desert. Try to keep the food light and choose the food you prepare best. Don’t experiment with something you’ve never tried to cook before. I would suggest you choose a fresh salad for the appetizer, chicken for the main course and cheese cake or apple pie for the desert. Accompany everything with an aperitif and quality wine. You’re not doing this every day, so don’t be sorry for the money.

Begin cooking on time. Everything should be ready when the guests arrive. Begin with the desert, as it will probably need to cool down a bit. Then move on to the main course and in the end the appetizer. Make sure the food that needs to be warm stays warm by covering it with tin foil and leaving it in the oven heated to 50C.

2. Be a Good Host

Successful dinner party depends a lot on how good of a host you are. The best recipe for being a good host is to be ready on time and keep a smile on your face.

You need to spend time with your guests, which means that you shouldn’t prepare food that needs your attention the whole time. Make everything ready so that you can sit down and dine with your guests. No one likes a host that has to run to the kitchen every couple of minutes.

Talk to your guests. Ask them about their life and work. Avoid talking politics and religion, those subjects usually don’t lead to a nice evening. Don’t bother the guests with your problems, especially financial. They don’t want to hear that you’re struggling with money while eating the dinner you paid for. Make it about them, not about you. Just don’t be nosy and don’t make them feel uncomfortable in any way.

3. Set Up the Atmosphere

You need a stylish atmosphere for a dinner party. This doesn’t mean that you should take out the silverware and silk napkins, but it also doesn’t mean that you should serve the food in chipped plates. Make sure to decorate the table, but nothing to fancy. Avoid flower arrangements because someone might be allergic to pollen and because they take up a lot of space. Pretty napkin rings and maybe a couple of candles will do just fine.

Put some music on, but choose something quiet and calm. The music should be there just to fulfill the atmosphere, not to make it. You absolutely must not be in a situation where you have to yell at people because they can’t hear you from the music.

That’s all there is. As long as you put a little effort in you can throw a great dinner party.
