6 Ways to Make a Donation for Children

These are the images that break our hearts; orphans, homeless children, hungry children in the streets. They are the ones who need our help. Help them! Here are 6 ways to make a donation for children.

1. What is a Little for You May Be a Lot for Someone Else

A lot of people don’t make donations because they don’t think they have a decent amount of money to donate. But you know what? There is no such thing as a decent amount of money for a donation. Every cent you give matters and what is a little for you may be a lot for someone else.

Just imagine, if every citizen of New York City donated just 1 dollar to charity, we would raise over 8 million dollars, and 8 million dollars is a lot of money, right? So, every time you have an extra dollar, even an extra cent, donate it for the children. You may either give it directly to some charity, put it in a charity box in the mall or give it to a homeless child in the street.

2. Donate the Old Clothes

You must have some clothes in your house that no one wears. Whether they are your old clothes or the clothes your children grew out of; take them and donate them to charity. Don’t hold on to your children’s old clothes. It’s a much better feeling to help someone else than to hang on to them.

Good Will and Red Cross gather clothes throughout the year and you can always donate your old clothes there. Some cities even have installed containers for old clothes in the streets. You simply put your old clothes in big plastic bags and put them in the container. Take everything you don’t wear anymore and donate it. It will mean a lot to someone who doesn’t have any clothes.

3. Donate the Old Toys

People usually think that a toy donation for children is completely unnecessary. You might think that the last thing a child without home or food would think about is toys. But it’s not true.

Remember that they are children too, and toys are very important to them, especially around holidays, when they don’t have anyone who will give them presents. Pack up your children’s old toys and donate them to the less fortunate kids. You will surely bring a smile to their faces.

4. What About the Postcards?

You have probably been stopped in the street, at least once, by someone who asked you to buy a postcard and told you that the money you’d give is actually a donation for homeless children. Whether you should or should not buy these postcards is a bit of a tricky question.

Let me be clear at the beginning that they are not frauds, but not the entire amount of money you give will go to the children. Turn the postcard over and read what it says. For most of those, merely 30% of the money will actually go to the kids. The rest of it goes for printing and the salaries of people who are selling them.

If the actual charity is not far away from your home, I’d say it is better to go and give 10$ directly to them, rather than to pay 10$ for the card and have only 3% of that amount go into your charity. Of course, you will be helping by buying those cards as well, so it’s pretty much up to you to decide what you want to do.

5. How to Find the Money to Make a Donation for Children

Most people say that they don’t have enough money for themselves, let alone for charity. Unfortunately, that is true, most of us are not in a very good financial situation, but you can still save a couple of bucks to donate.

Next time you go shopping, choose a dollar cheaper hand cream, a dollar cheaper body lotion, a dollar cheaper shampoo. See how it goes? Every dollar you can save like this is a dollar you can donate to the children who really need it. A feeling that you’ll have knowing you’ve helped someone is a much better feeling than any of those products can give you.

6. Involve as Many People as You Can

If you really are a devoted donor, you should try to involve as many people as possible. Start from your family and your own children and work your way through the neighborhood.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should knock on people’s doors asking them to donate to your charity; you may end up annoying them. Instead, install a booth in front of your house or apartment building and put up some information about what you are raising money for. It is a great idea to contact the charity before doing something like this in order to get some kind of proof that you are actually raising money for them. There are a lot of frauds out there and people might not believe that you are really raising money for a charity.

There are a lot of ways to make a donation for children. It is a humane and wonderful act and you should get involved today. Try one of these 6 ways and start donating now.
