How to Get Better With Age

The way we live determines the way we age. Will we become a lively nanny everyone loves or a grumpy nagging woman people avoid is a matter of choice.

However, we are not really inclined to think about the future; we are too occupied with the present. Too busy managing every day’s life, sometimes it seems like we have forgotten working on ourselves and developing our personal qualities, thinking that “This is it. That’s who I am; there is no more space for a change.” Still, this isn’t quite so. We can become better with age no matter how old we are now.  Nevertheless, to become a better person, mother, daughters etc later, here is what we should do now.

1. Find a Balance

To make other people happy, first you have to be happy yourself. Satisfied, successful people have one thing in common: they have a well-balanced private and professional life.

If you are 30 something and juggle daily between husband, kids and work, this may seem as manageable as winning at the Olympics, but a good side of maturity is that you learn to set priorities.

In addition, once you learn how to do that, everything seems to come at its place as if touched by a magic wand. Just have in mind that your goal is to become a happy woman, not a Superwoman.

Steven Covey in his bestseller 7 Habits of Highly Effective people gave one of the best explanations what personal growth actually is and how to lead a satisfying life. Read it, it will definitely help you focus on the important things in life.

2. Cultivate Your Relationships

Building relationships with your family, friends and even annoying colleges is the best way to become better person. Of course, the amount of effort put into each relationship is not the same, but even the most insignificant; superficialones can teach you something about yourself, human nature and the world in general. Through this interaction, you will learn to become patient, open minded, less rigid, flexible as well as more cautious and wiser.

3. Get a Hobby

Staying active in the sphere of your interest other than work will enrich your inner life. Even if you don’t have a hobby by now, spend you spare time doing something you enjoy.

Better yet, challenge yourself with something new; start learning an exotic language, try scuba diving, create your blog. With every new skill, you’ll become more confident, fulfilled and happy- and there are no better ways to defeat age. Besides, you’ll learn something more about yourself; another important step for your growth.

4. Volunteer

To get better with age, you should try and find the time for volunteer work. Helping people less fortunate than ourselves develops compassion, empathy and teaches us to appreciate what we have. Besides, it is nice to give something back to community and know that in your own way, you are doing the best you can to make the world a better place.

5. Appreciate Little Things

Learn to appreciate little things; a sunny day, a first word your child made, a bowl of ice cream on a hot summer day. At the end of every day, remind yourself of all the things you are grateful for; this will remind you how happy you actually are.

6. Laugh

A good sense of humor and enthusiasm will not only make your life easier, they will also affect people around you. Facing life difficulties with a big smile on your face will keep you away from anxiety, depression, and dispiritedness.

7. Learn from Experience

They say that wisdom is intelligence + experience. To become better with age, it is not enough to let things happen without paying attention. Learn a lesson from every mistake you’ve made and try not to repeat it in the future.

These are not the only things you should do to become better with age, but they are surely among the most important ones. Do you have anything to add? Share your thoughts and help us become better with age.
