I think it’s pretty safe to say that a disorganized closet doesn’t do anyone any good. It makes it near impossible to find things and instead of enjoying the experience of getting ready to go out, you find yourself in dismay as you struggle to find an outfit. That doesn’t have to be the case, however. An organized closet is easy to achieve and will result in a happier, more relaxed you. That said, here’s how to organize your closet so you always find what you need:

The first and most important step to having an organized closet is first of all to sort through your possessions. To do this, simply pull everything out of your closet and decide which clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories you need and which ones you’d be better off giving to charity. I warn you, this step isn’t for the faint hearted and you have to be ruthless in your decisions. If you haven’t worn something for at least three months then it has to go; otherwise it’s just taking up valuable space.

#2 Mount a Pegboard

Hanging a pegboard inside your closet door may sound odd but it’s actually incredibly handy. A pegboard is the perfect place for you to hang all your accessories without them getting all tangled up or lost and they’ll be easily accessible for your next night out.

Storing bags can be nothing short of a nightmare – especially since when placed on the closet floor where they tend to slump and lose their shape. Installing a few stackable bins with pullout drawers is a great way to maximize space while still keeping your closet neat and tidy. I’ll admit that until recently I’d never heard of shelf dividers but now I’m not sure what I ever did without them! Sliding just a few shelf dividers into your closet instantly makes your stacked clothes look much neater and stops them from slumping and getting mixed up when you’re looking for something.

By storing your clothes in categories, you near instantly find your closet more organized and you’ll find it’s much easier to find the item you’re looking for. By storing your jeans in one place, t-shirts in another, and skirts somewhere else, you’ll be able to put together an outfit much quicker and without making such a mess.

All too often, the doors of your closet are unused space but this doesn’t have to be the case. Installing an over-the-door rack is a quick and easy way to gain more space, making it much easier to organize and maintain your closet. You can get over-the-door racks to hold just about anything but the shoe racks work especially well and look absolutely fantastic, too.

#10 Add Some Finishing Touches

You’ll find that you’re much more motivated to organize and maintain your closet if it looks good, which is why you ought to add some finishing touches. By hanging your clothes on matching hangers and adding a string of fairy lights you’ll instantly make your closet look much more pleasing and, as a result, you’ll feel better about venturing into it and tidying up afterwards.
