How to Stay in Shape While Pregnant

Worried about gaining too much extra weight while pregnant? Here are a couple of tips that will help you stay in shape and look great!

Staying in shape during pregnancy doesn’t have to be difficult, tiring or harmful to the baby in any way – there are lots of things you can do to spend those nine months blissfully in every possible sense!

1. Eat Properly

The most important thing when it comes to eating and being pregnant is NO DIETING! Caps lock was necessary to stress this. I’m sorry, but it’s really important not to even think about going on any diet no matter how mild you think it is.

Yes, you’re going to put on weight, and there’s really no sure way of knowing how much weight that’s going to be, because everyone’s body is different but that’s something you can’t have any influence on.

It’s recommendable that you don’t add any additional calories during the first trimester, that you add an additional 300 kcal during the second, and 450 during the third. But do what you feel like doing and what you think is the best.

Try to eat healthy and stop eating junk food (which you should be doing either way) and enrich your diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, white meat, whole grains etc.

Also, it’s really important that you drink lots of water – 8 glasses a day is a perfect amount, and keep your body hydrated.

2. Exercise

Many women still can’t quite comprehend that moderate exercise while pregnant isn’t harmful at all. It can in fact result in a better physical health, relieve them from any possible stress or anxiety, and make going through labor and post-delivery period easier and less unpleasant.

This has been scientifically proven and applies to all women – even those who don’t normally exercise on a regular basis.

Avoiding sports that can result in injury like group sports, skiing, diving etc. goes without saying. But there are many things that pregnant ladies who’d like to stay active and fit can do, such as going swimming, taking on yoga lessons, walking, aerobics and many others.

Many places these days organize special groups for pregnant women which give you an opportunity to keep in shape and meet other women who are going through the same thing as you are. It can be significant if this is your first time being pregnant and don’t really know what to expect.
