Let me give you a little story. I have a friend who is absolutely gorgeous and has guys flirting with her all the time. They come into her work and take up way more time then they should, they smile at her and loiter trying to get her attention.
The thing is, she never realizes it. In her opinion these guys are just being nice. I can tell you, ladies, sometimes it really is just a guy being nice, but then there are those times he’s definitely flirting with you.
Here are some sure signs that guy flirting is going on.
1. He looks you in the eyes
If he’s talking to you and looking you in the eyes, there’s a chance he’s actually flirting with you. While it might not seem like much, a guy flirting will always look you in the eyes.
Where else would he be looking, you ask? Well, I know when I try to chat with a guy who isn’t interested in me (or even a guy friend who doesn’t think of me as more than his pal) the guy always looks around him. He’s checking his phone, he’s looking at the scenery, he’s doing everything but making eye contact.
If you’re with a guy who is constantly looking you in the eye when he speaks to you, then he’s guy flirting.
2. His buddies make a joke and he shoves them away
No matter how old they get, guys in groups are always the same. Immature.
If you have a guy talking to you and his friends are making light remarks about him flirting or “oohing” knowingly and winking at him, then he’s definitely flirting with you. They never really outgrow this middle school habit.
He’s definitely flirting with you if he shoves his friends away so he can focus on you.
3. The double take
Sometimes it isn’t the look when he’s talking, sometimes it’s the look after the conversation is over. One of the biggest guy flirting techniques is the double take.
In other words, after the conversation has ended and you say goodbye, he turns away to walk off, then turns back around and glances at you again before he walks away. The Double Take is a definite sign he’s interested.
4. He laughs at your joke
Whenever a man is flirting with us, we sometimes get a little nervous. I know there have been times when a guy was flirting with me that I cracked a bad joke (which I later realized wasn’t even remotely funny). If a guy’s flirting with you, he’ll laugh anyway.
Sure, he might ponder the joke later and try to figure it out, but if you tell a joke and laugh, and he doesn’t get it, he’s going to laugh with you because he wants you to feel comfortable (and he wants you to think he’s smart enough to get the joke).
5. He ignores his phone
This is a huge sign of guy flirting!
Men love their technology. If you’re in the company of a man who blatantly ignores his cell phone call or text while you’re talking, then he is most certainly flirting with you.
6. Nervous hand movements
Not all guys are confident enough to flirt shamelessly with a woman. Sometimes they stumble and stutter their words or say senseless things (or make bad jokes).
One of they key guy flirt signs is nervous hand movements. Maybe he’ll run his fingers through his hair, or maybe he’ll tap his hands on the counter or he might even put his hands in his pockets and take them back out again over and over.
7. He raises his eyebrows when he smiles
Any guy can smile at you. it’s sometimes difficult to tell if a guy is just being nice or flirting through his smile alone, but, watch his eyebrows.
If you’re talking with a guy and he smiles and raises an eyebrow (or both) in a pleasantly surprised way, and then leans in closer to you, he’s definitely flirting.
8. He shows off
Ladies, we all know guys like to show off. It’s not just that they enjoy showing off when they flirt, they also are highly competitive and enjoy flaunting themselves. It can sometimes be confusing for us ladies to decide if he’s doing the guy flirt thing or if he’s just being a guy.
One way to be sure is to listen to what he says around you and compare it to how he talks around others. If he’s always trying to sound smart when you’re around, he’s flirting.
Also, if he comes into your work and leaves you a large tip, he’s flirting. I have had guys buy a two dollar cup of coffee and leave me a three dollar tip simply because they wanted to be impressive.
9. He remembers something you said
If you haven’t seen this guy for a while, and then when you do see him he makes a point of mentioning a previous conversation with something like “Oh, I remembered what you said about…” he’s probably flirting.
This is not always the cased with advise about pets or plants, but if it’s talk about ancient Rome or UV rays and he mentions it again in a completely unrelated way, he’s flirting.
10. He finds a reason to ask for your number or give you his
The best way to tell if a guy is flirting is if he’s trying somehow to get a phone call.
I met a guy doing the laundry who was complaining about the landlord. He said “Maybe we should exchange numbers?” I said “Why?” and he replied stuttering “Umm, I don’t know, in case we need to get together and talk about this?” Now, although I know he was trying to fumble his way through a guy flirt, I had no interest in him and flat out said he doesn’t need my number.
There’s another good tip for you ladies. Juts because he’s guy flirting, that doesn’t make you obligated to reciprocate the flirt. You can always walk away from the ones you aren’t interested in.
