Things Every Best Friend Really Deserves

There is no one on this planet who understands you like your best friend. Here are the things every best friend deserves!

If your best friend is anything like mine, then she is one of the best parts of your life. She has been there with you for every breakup, fight and bad hair day. Through thick and thin, you two will always be by each other’s side. You’re basically already married.

My best friend has been there for me more times than I could possibly count, and knows me better than I know myself. I can’t hide anything from her, as hard as I may try at times—nothing gets past her. She knows what I’m doing, or did, before I even tell her.

She’s my other half. She’s my person and all these things to me, yet she still doesn’t realize how amazing she truly is. She puts up with so much more than she should have to, and tries to conquer everything without help.

I know I can’t solve all of your problems, Midge, but that will never stop me from trying. Here are only some of the things that you deserve from the world.

1. You deserve to take time for yourself

You are constantly on the go. I know you love that lifestyle, but I know how much it takes out of you. All of those nearly sleepless nights take a toll on you. You work so hard all of the time, whether it’s at school or at work. You’re always trying to better your life, and that is something I love about you.

You do, however, need to learn how to do something for yourself. You feel guilty whenever you buy yourself something you’ve been saving up money for, or cancel plans when you physically can’t move.

You’re allowed to slow down sometimes. You’re allowed to focus on yourself, and do something that makes you happy. Don’t feel guilty for that.

2. You deserve not to have to face things alone

There are some things that I know you will never tell me, and I’m okay with that. I know you want to have your own secrets, and keep some things to yourself. That’s okay. You don’t have to open up completely, even though you don’t need to be afraid to with me.

I know that you struggle with more than people realize. So, I want you to know that I will never judge you for anything you choose to do, or anything that happens to you. I know how much you’ve been there for me when I do something stupid. Like you’ve just told me, my problems are your problems.

You don’t have to face everything alone. I’m here for you. I always will be.

You’re one of the strongest people I know, but that doesn’t mean you have to put on a brave face all of the time. You’re allowed to break down sometimes. You don’t always have to have a wall up.

3. You deserve to love yourself

I know how hard it is for you to believe how amazing you are. And no matter how many times anyone tells you, most of you will believe that they’re lying. I promise you: we aren’t lying. All I want for you is to be happy—not only with life, but with yourself, too.

You are so hard on yourself. You need to be nicer to yourself. There are so many things to love about you that you don’t even realize yet. There is a reason why people love to be around you. You are so smart, funny and amazingly ghetto at times.

You put on a happy face for people, but I know what lies underneath that, and I’m sorry for that. Yes, you deserve so much more than everything you’ve been put through. You deserve not to have to worry about going anywhere because of your anxiety with everything. And not to have to worry all of the time.

4. You deserve the world

There is no one in this world who is like you. That’s one of the best things about you. Never in my life have I met anyone who makes me laugh until I cry (constantly), cry until you make me laugh and have someone who I am always so excited to see.

There is no one who has better inside-jokes than we do, and there is no one who can have the late night car rides that we do. You work so hard with everything you do. I know you won’t believe that when you see it, but I can see it so clearly. You have so much passion for your life and where you want it to go.

So, you deserve to light up when you get to talk about something that you love. You deserve to love and be loved by whomever you want. I don’t care who you have your life with as long as that person makes you truly happy.

You deserve the world. Like Cher Lloyd says, “Wherever you go, just always remember that you got a home for now and forever, and if you get low, just call me whenever. This is my oath to you.”
