What you do and what you take before breakfast has a crucial role on your health and fitness. In fact, it may also be very essential when you want to lose weight and shed off some pounds. Some people recommend apple cider, green tea or hot water. Then, you have lemons.

It improves digestion by stimulating your gastrointestinal tract. This is why it is recommended to drink it prior to eating anything else when your stomach is still empty.

When it is ingested and fully metabolized, it has an alkalinizing effect on the body and raises the blood’s pH. Keeping your pH levels regulated is important because most illnesses and conditions are associated with acidic body states.

Lemon Water: How and When

To harness the benefits of lemon water, make sure that you take it right after waking up. Take a lemon and slice it in half. Squeeze the juice from both halves over a cup of lukewarm water and drink it. Make sure that you use fresh lemons (organic, if possible) and not commercial lemon juice.

Do not be afraid to scrape the flesh and membranous portions of the lemon. In fact, you can even squeeze portions from the peel and add it to your drink. It is rich in fiber and contains 5x more vitamin C than the juice. Wait at least fifteen to thirty minutes before drinking anything or eating anything.

I drink lemon water in the morning, and also usually slip lemon slices in my water glass and refill it during the day. I find that it provides me with the flavor that I need whenever I crave for something sweet like juice or soda.

What about you, do you drink lemon water regularly? What benefits have you noticed?

  • Yes, I drink the juice of a lemon every morning, 30 minutes before eating anything just as you say. I do that especially during winter and have been doing that for 3 years now.

I wonder if it could damage your teeth on the long term though?

  • Does the lemon have to be yellow? I usually can’t find non-expensive yellow lemons where I live
