How to Deal With One Month Away from Your Boyfriend

Being separated from the person you love is never easy. You will feel lonely and sad, but there is something you can do about it. Find out how to deal with one month away from your boyfriend.

First of all, I have to tell you that one month is not really that long a period. Take it from a person who’s been separated from her boyfriend for a year. That was the longest year of my life, but I came up with a couple of tricks to deal with it. Check them out.

1. Keep Yourself Busy

The worst thing you can do when you are away from your boyfriend is to dwell on a situation and think about nothing but that. Keep yourself busy instead.

Use that month to catch up with some old friends you haven’t seen in a while. Go shopping and do all those girly things your boyfriend is really not into. Focus on your school or your work more than usual. Take up a new hobby or a class.

The whole point is not to give yourself too much time to think about how bad you feel. Keeping yourself busy doesn’t mean you don’t miss your boyfriend. You are simply trying to find the best way to deal with the situation.

2. Write Letters

There will be moments when you will miss your boyfriend more than usually. Pretty much anything could remind you of something the two of you did together and make you feel even lonelier. Writing letters is a cure for these situations.

These letters are not intended to be sent. Their only purpose is to make you feel a little better. And I mean old school letters – paper and pen. Forget about typing it on your computer.

Take a pen and a paper and write down how you feel. Address this letter as you are actually going to send it to your boyfriend. Tell him what the thing that reminded you of him was. Tell him how much you miss him and how much you wished he was there with you. Tell him everything that lies on your heart. If you feel like it, you can even send that letter or read it to your boyfriend once he comes back, but you don’t have to. Writing it alone will help you feel better.

3. Phone Sex

There are people who think that phone sex is good and people who think it is bad. Both sides have their arguments, but I’d say – try it and see how it works.

You will normally feel lonely and yes – you will miss the sex too. It’s not the same if you just think about him and masturbate – it’s much better to include him in it. You will probably feel shy at first, but there is really no reason for that. It’s your boyfriend you’re talking to, not just some random guy.

If you’re feeling brave enough you can also do this via Skype. However, I do not recommend it unless you are completely sure that you’ve protected your computer and internet access in the best possible way. Hacking into someone’s Skype video chat is not really that hard, and you don’t want your hot session to end up on the internet.

It is not easy, but it will pass. In the end, being one month away from your boyfriend could bring you a stronger relationship. They say that you don’t know what you have until you lose it. You won’t really lose each other, but you will get to know how it would feel and cherish the time you spend together more.

  • great article thanks for the tips! going through two month separation from bf before a visit…. and the long haul 4-5 month separation. :/ Gonna utilize these tips!

  • I’ve been doing the above! I’ve sent messages telling him our memories tho. But I have done other letters for when he’s back! Day 4 now.. 27 sleeps to go! It can’t go quick enough! First 3 days I was a mess.. today was a lot better! After we skyped last night I was finally able to think about something other than him not being around.. which felt so nice! I guess I’ll have bad days & good days.. roll on the end of it all tho! X

    • My boyfriend and I are not allowed to see one another because his college believes their students shouldn’t interact with loved ones for two months so they can adapt to their new “adulthood” lives. Today is only day three and I’m dying. I don’t start school until tomorrow and I’m going to try to apply the “keeping busy method” but any other ideas on what I shall do. He also texts me at least once a day and that would be before he goes to bed. He warned me that the first week or so he wouldn’t be able to speak to me as much but I didn’t know it would suck this much. At the same time I’m trying to sound like the understanding girlfriend you know? What should I do?

  • I will have to try the first two things since I will have absolutely no contact with my boyfriend. Its only day one and I dont know when I will see or hear from him. I just hope that he finds a way to contact me.

  • I’m in a long distance relationship over a was going smooth but i did some mistakes.i made my guy jealous through one of his he is not talking to me.not taking my calls not replying my msgs.please help me to get him back…

  • I’m going on a trip for a month and I will be two states away from my Significant other. I am thinking of doing a letter every day I am gone and when I get back giving them to him so he knows how I’ve missed him and what has reminded me of him. I would do the third tip you gave us but I’m not staying in the house by myself so I cant do that and I’m really sad about that.
