Summer Makeup Tips

Summer is coming, and who doesn’t want to stay looking good? Here are some tips on what to keep in mind when getting ready for a day or night out during the hot summer days!

1. Moisturize and Prime

Don’t let the summer heat dry your skin! Its not a good look. Keep your skin well moisturized so that you have your natural glow in check before applying any other makeup. Your skin will look fresh and hydrated, perfect for any occasion whether you apply makeup or not, don’t you think?

Your look will only be as good as its base, so invest in a good primer to help keep your makeup looking good for longer. Here are some primers to try out:

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

  • Smashbox Photo Finish Primer $36 (www.smashbox.com)
  • Revlon Smoothing Beyond Natural Primer $11 (www.revloncosmetics.com)
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion $18 (www.urbandecay.com)

2. Long Wear Makeup

Don’t stop the fun just because your makeup doesn’t last!  Since you probably don’t want to keep reapplying your makeup when you’re out, go for long wear makeup collections that are widely available nowadays. No more sliding eyeliners or melting mascara, these products will keep your look in tact all day long. From eye shadows to foundation, it’s all available in long wear formulas. Have a go with some of these products:

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadows

  • Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadows $24 (www.bobbibrown.com)
  • MAC Pro Long-wear Concealer $17 (www.maccosmetics.com)
  • Clinique Lash Power Mascara Long-Wear Formula (www.clinique.com)

3. Less is More

The last thing you want is to get the cakey makeup look. So try going minimal with the makeup this summer. Opt for tinted moisturizers instead of foundation; your skin will get the natural glow without packing on layers and layers of your foundation. Perfect for a hot summer day, as your face will feel lighter and the heat won’t affect you!

Choose one area to highlight. A swing of your mascara wand can do wonders on a summer day, pair this with a cute pink lipstick shade, some blush and you’re good to go!

4. Go for Bright Colored Lips

If there is one thing that I love about summer it’s the fact that I have an excuse to wear bright colored makeup!

This summer try going for a hot pink, warm orange, or even a cherry red when picking lip colors. Choose Lipsticks that have a moisturizing effect, as your lips need to stay hydrated on those hot summer days. Check out the lipstick shades to try out this summer:

NARS Lip Laquer

  • NARS Lip Laquer $24 (www.narscosmetics.com)
  • MAC Pro Long-Wear Lipcreme $17 (www.maccosmetics.com)
