Some songs are just perfect for setting the mood, dimming the lights, and maybe even lighting some candles. Music and sex have a symbiotic relationship. Getting the mood right with a little music is something that goes back to the Middle Ages when King George II used to commission musicians to play outside of his window at night. And I’m sure he wasn’t the first to come up with that plan.
Hundreds of years later, hopeful guys all around the world are scrolling through their playlist to find a good artist to set the mood for the big move. Everyone has their own taste in music, but some songs are just sexy and there’s no denying it. Certain artists are known for making great bedroom music. It just so happens that the vast majority of the best sex songs come from the same genre, R&B (rhythm and blues).
Some people prefer other genres such as acoustic or soft rock for bedroom activity, but R&B seems to deal pretty much exclusively with love and romance, so it’s perfect for lovemaking. Hip hop can be pretty good for the bedroom sometimes too, but no other genre does it quite like R&B.
Here are some of the best sex songs to make love to. Add these to your playlist for special occasions where you need the perfect mix to add to the ambiance. Make your own suggestions in the comment section below!
1) TLC – Red Light Special
TLC has always been a guilty pleasure for me. Not only were all three of the singers in TLC super sexy, their songs are some of the sexiest ever made. Namely, the album CrazySexyCool has numerous tracks that have a natural tendency to put listeners in the mood. The lyrics on the album deal primarily with sex and dating as a young, single, hot-blooded female.
Red Light Special was one of TLC’s biggest hits and brought them further into the limelight than they already were from their debut album. The music video for Red Light Special says it all. T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chile are dressed in silk nightwear dancing sexily in front of the camera. The lyrics for the main chorus are as follows, “I’m yours if you want it tonight. Give me the red light special all through the night.” It might be the greatest sex song ever.
2) Usher – Nice and Slow
90s era Usher was like the male equivalent of TLC. His songs have a hip-hop influence that gives the traditional R&B sound more style. Here are the lyrics from Nice and Slow’s chorus: “Let me take you to a place real nice and quiet where there ain’t no one there to interrupt. Ain’t got to rush. I just want to take it nice and slow.” It’s an all-time classic for getting in the mood.
3) H-Town – Knockin’ Da Boots
In case you have never heard the term ‘knocking boots’ before, yes, it means sex. The chorus goes: “Somebody rockin’ knockin’ the boots.” It might be slightly funny to have sex to a song that says over and over “knockin the boots,” but the beat is just so damn smooth. It’s totally a sex anthem, through and through.
4) TLC – Let’s Do it Again
This is definitely an underrated track. Also from CrazySexyCool, it actually has moans in the background as part of the chorus. It goes like this, “Let’s do it again, because I want to make sweet love to you babe. Let’s do it again, all night long.” This is a song about sex made for having sex to.
5) Keath Sweat – Nobody
Keith Sweat has a lot of good slow songs about sex and romance. This is probably his best and most famous one, though. Part of the chorus goes like this: “Who can sex you like me? Nobody.” It’s pretty catchy. This is a song that randomly pops in my head after not hearing it for years, probably triggered by some saying something in conversation that happens to be part of the lyrics.
6) Fetty Wap – My Way
Fetty Wap has a lot of good songs for having sex to. His debut, self-titled album could probably be played all the way through during the act. For modern stuff, his is definitely some of the best for background sex music.
7) Ginuwine – Pony
The beat of this song just makes you want to start grinding. Genuine sings the following for the chorus: “My saddle is waiting, ride it, my pony.” Genuine didn’t have a whole lot of hits besides this one, but it’s memorable enough to last pretty much forever. And most of all, it’s great for setting the mood for something really freaky.
8) Drake – Hold On, We’re Going Home
Drake has a lot of good tracks for getting busy. Out of the many great songs he has for that, this one is probably the catchiest. From the opening words, it’s a really chill song that makes you feel at ease when it comes on. “I got my eyes on you. You’re everything that I see. I want your hot love and emotion, endlessly.” Especially if you love this song, it can really enhance the moment when it comes on.
9) Toni Braxton – You’re Makin’ Me High
Toni Braxton was a bombshell in the 90s. And the music video for this song is perfect. Toni and a few of her cute friends (including the gorgeous Vivica Fox) rate guys who come out of an elevator with scorecards. Not only is her voice sexy, so is the beat. Pretty much every guy had a thing for Toni Braxton in the 90s. This song is exactly why.
10) Next – Too Close
Too Close is an upbeat song that’s fun to get into. Like a lot of other songs on this list, it has a 90s nostalgic feel, which can be either a good or bad thing. If you find nostalgic tracks distracting then it would obviously be a bad thing but if you can just use it as background music to support the mood, it’s definitely a good song. The chorus goes: “Baby when we’re grinding, I get so excited. Oh, how I like it. I try but I can’t fight it.”
11) LL Cool J – Doin’ It
LL Cool J was the mack daddy of the 90s. This track for sex and about sex is classic. The video features LL in a peep show booth watching various girls do dances for him one at a time. The song even uses the sound of a girl moaning as part of the beat.
12) Eve ft. Gwen Stefani – Let Me Blow Ya Mind
Produced by Dr. Dre, this song is a great mix of hip-hop and R&B. It has a smooth rhythm that you will catch yourself humming hours later after the deed. Every time you sing it to yourself you’ll remember the passionate moment you had.
Everyone has their own taste in music, but these iconic love making songs are and always will be great for the bedroom. It just so happens that an overwhelming majority of the best songs for sex came out in the 90s. Sexy R&B was a bit more popular then than it is now, but the music lives on.
Whether they’re from the 90s, 2000s, present, or some other point in time, the best sex songs can add just the right atmosphere to enhance the moment even more. Next time you are planning to make the move on someone special, put on some of these tracks and make the night even more memorable.
