It’s important to have a bit of mommy pampering time. Here are 5 homemade pampering beauty treatments to give you the ultimate relaxation.
In the beginning of pregnancy moms to be are given this glimmering hope that their hair will grow like Rapunzel’s, their skin will be positively glowing and as long as they eat right and exercise, they will have a tiny little bump with no stretch marks like the ladies in the movies.
Although true for some lucky ladies, this is rarely the case! We all need a spot of pampering now and then to make us feel pretty and pregnancy is the perfect time to take care of yourself and your unwanted pregnancy symptoms!
#1 Cinnamon soufflé body scrub
Did you know that your skin is the largest organ on your body? No? Well neither did I! Before pregnancy I rarely took care of my skin and constantly neglected the parts that were usually covered up in the cold weather. Being pregnant I found that my skin became quite dry in parts, mainly my elbows and knees, and with the threat of stretch marks looming I decided to create this fab recipe to scrub your skin from dry to dazzling!
What you’ll need:
- 2 tablespoons of dried oats – I use Quakers because it’s what my fiancé eats
- 5 tablespoons of olive oil
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, wet your body and get scrubbing! The dried oats and sugar with exfoliate away the dead skin cells while the oil will leave your skin smooth and supple! The cinnamon gives a lovely sweet smell (as long as your pregnancy nose hasn’t put you off it!).
#2 Avocado and banana hair mask
Some ladies are lucky enough to get naturally strong and shiny hair during pregnancy but for the rest of us who need a little extra help, here is a fab hair mask to give your locks some lustrous shine!
Mash together one banana, half an avocado and 3-4 tablespoons of natural plain yoghurt. Apply sparingly to your hair, massaging into your scalp and right through to the ends (they’re the bits that need a little extra TLC). Leave the mixture in for 15-20 minutes and then rinse out with warm water.
For an extra deep conditioning treatment, try putting your hair up in a bun and wrapping a towel around it to lock in the moisture and heat while you wait for the mixture to do it’s magic. All the ingredients are fab for preventing hair loss and promoting hair growth, plus they will make it strong and maneagable.
*Don’t forget to wash out all the bits, no one wants yellow or green mush in their locks while walking around the supermarket!
#3 Honey bee facemask
I never got that pregnancy glow that everyone PROMISED when I fell pregnant. Instead I was given acne, blotchiness and bags under my eyes – what a substitution right? So from the beginning stages of my pregnancy I hunted high and low for the right things for my face. As a lover of all things natural I found this gem to give my face glow appeal, banish blemishes and leave me feeling fresh – natural runny honey.
With natural antibacterial properties, honey is a fab way to treat your skin. Apply a small amount to clean dry skin and leave on for 5 minutes to really sink into your pores. Gently wash away with warm water then pat your skin dry. The honey will delve deep into your pores and pull out any impurities while lifting dirt from the surface too. If you have any blemishes you could dab a small amount of the honey onto the affected area and leave it overnight. Be sure to make it a thin layer or you’ll end up with a sticky pillow!
This is one of my favorite pampering beauty treatments!
#4 Lemon face scrub
Again with natural antibacterial properties, but with the addition of antifungal properties too, lemon is great for clearing out blackheads and getting rid of oily skin. Simply cut a slice of lemon and squeeze a generous amount into a bowl along with 2 teaspoons of sugar, which is great for exfoliating away those dead skin cells.
For added moisture add a teaspoon of jojoba oil. Being so similar to the natural oils that our skin produces makes jojoba a fab moisturizer. It absorbs really easily making your skin feel super soft and definitely glowing! Don’t let the name fool you, this isn’t oily at all, and is great for creating a youthful complexion and treating oily skin.
Mix the ingredients together and apply to your face. Rub it in, taking care to be gentle around your eyes, rinse off with warm water and pat dry!
#5 Fab foot mask
Not only did my feet become dry during pregnancy (with the help of being locked away in boots during the cold weather) but they also swelled and became very tender. A good old foot massage really did the trick and teamed with this natural beauty of an ingredient, became smooth and soft!
Mix 3 tablespoons of shea butter with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Both ingredients sink deep into the layers of your skin and repair dry and damaged cells while strengthening new ones! Apply generously to your feet making sure to reach in between your toes and on the rough areas like the heel.
Wrap your feet in cling film, put your feet up and have a cuppa! If you can do this before bedtime and leave the mixture on overnight then you’ll wake up to fabulously smooth feet!
When you’re ready, remove the cling film and rub in any excess mixture. There’s no need to rinse it off, your skin can do with all the moisturizing that they can get, so if you have too much left over to rub in, simply apply in to your legs!
So if like me you’re a mom to be who’s in need of some serious pampering then why not give these fab tips a go. They’re all so simple to make and what’s more, they’re very inexpensive! All of the ingredients are natural which can leave you feeling satisfied that you know exactly what you’re putting on your body!
