10 Brand Products and Their Drugstore Knockoffs

Love brand name makeup products but are often heart-broken at the price? Check out our list of high-quality drugstore knockoffs that won’t burn a hole in your wallet!

It’s happened to all of us. You go to a department store, test out a product from one of the high-end makeup counters, fall in love with it, and decide to purchase it…until you hear those dreadful words at the cash register: “That’ll be $60, miss.”

In the mental battle between feeding into your makeup obsession and keeping your wallet intact, you begin re-thinking your purchase. Is this worth the price? Do I really need it? Will I use it enough? Actually, I have enough products; I think I’ll pass.

If turning down a makeup product because of its price tag is something you’re all too familiar with, you’re not alone. Thankfully, makeup doesn’t just exist in brand name form. The drugstore is more than just a place for buying medicine and household products; it’s a home for a vast variety of makeup products that are comparable to high-end brand products.

The best part? It won’t break the bank. Read on to see 10 of the best makeup products at a drugstore price.

1. Maybelline EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Liner vs. Mac FluidLine Eyeliner Gel

Mac FluidLine Eyeliner Gel

If mastering a cat-eye or successfully drawing a solid straight line on your eyelid are things you can only dream about doing, throw away the pencil eyeliner and grab a gel eyeliner. Not only are mistakes easy to fix with gel eyeliner, but chances are you’ll make less of them than you would using a pencil or liquid eyeliner (you can thank your shaky hands for that).

With so many gel eyeliners on the market, Mac’s FluidLine Eyeliner Gel has definitely proved itself. Its creamy formula lasts all day without smudging and makes applying a cat eye a breeze. But at $16, is it really worth it? Not if you can find a drugstore alternative.

That’s where Maybelline’s EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner comes in. Not only does it come in an array of colors, to suit your bright-color needs, but it provides intense color and lasting power. The price tag of $7 isn’t too shabby, either.

2. Milani Baked Blush in ‘Luminoso’ vs. Nars blush in ‘Orgasm’

One of the most popular products from Nars is the ‘Orgasm’ blush (and no, not just because of its suggestive name). A peachy-pink shade that looks good on just about every skin tone, ‘Orgasm’ offers a natural, just-pinched look that makes your skin appear glowing and fresh. Though the blush contains enough product to last you a few years, initially spending the $29 on it can be difficult.

Cue in Milani’s Baked Blush in ‘Luminoso.’ The name says it all for this blush: it gives the skin a luminous finish and feels luxuriously smooth when applied. It’s also baked and finely milled, so its texture doesn’t come out chalky, like some drugstore blushes, and its texture is silky smooth. Priced at an attractive $8, this drugstore favorite is a cult classic.

3. Revlon PhotoReady Foundation vs. Makeup Forever HD Foundation

These are two of the most talked about products in the beauty world. Giving off an air-brushed, flawless foundation look, both the Revlon PhotoReady foundation and the Makeup Forever HD foundation offer buildable coverage and easy application. Both photograph beautifully and also make the skin appear even and flawless in person.

While the Makeup Forever foundation is around $40, the Revlon foundation is about three times the price ($14) and has a comparable quality. Oh, and both com with a pump (thumbs up for sanitation purposes) and sleek packaging.

4. Revlon Lip Butter in ‘Sweet Tart vs. Dior Addict Lipstick in ‘It Pink’

Dior Addict Lipstick in It Pink

If you’re on the hunt for a bright lip color that screams summer, a hot pink never fails. Whether you’re going to a beach barbecue or are simply going out for a day of shopping, a hot pink lip makes a statement like no other lip color can do. With such a shade being a hot trend for the warmer months, where’s a girl to find her Holy Grail hot pink lip color?

The Dior Addict Lipstick in ‘It Pink features luxe packaging, a delicious hot pink shade, and a silky, glossy formula. At $28, it could very well be worth the price, but let’s face it: we’re all trying to save a few dollars here and there. Luckily, you don’t have to sacrifice quality for price.

The Revlon Lip Butter in ‘Sweet Tart’ is a nearly identical shade to the Dior Addict lipstick, except it’s only $7. Both lip products finish to a glossy, smooth texture and have the same wearing time.

5. Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette vs. Wet n Wild Eyeshadow Palette in ‘Nude Awakening’

Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette

It’s a long battle between both high-end and drugstore makeup brands when it comes to nudes. While some are priced heavily at over $30, others are more affordable at sometimes less than $10.

Urban Decay’s Naked 1 Palette has been all the rage for quite some time. Often found on the top of holiday and birthday wish lists, this popular palette is a must-have for many due to its variety of extremely pigmented colors, high-quality textures, and wearability.

However, priced at about $50, it can be a bit of a stretch for many. That’s why we’ve turned to Wet n Wild’s newest addition to their Spring Forward 2013 collection: the eyeshadow palette in ‘Nude Awakening.’ Though it only contains 8 shades in comparison to the Naked Palette’s 12, this palette is comparable on all other aspects. It’s travel-friendly, great for makeup beginners, and contains highly pigmented eyeshadows with smooth formulas. And, priced at $5, it’s a complete steal.

Too often we find ourselves having to muster up the courage to turn down high-end brand products because of its hefty price tag. Luckily, the drugstore holds a plethora of products that are comparable to high-end products.
