Get the Waterproof Makeup at the Ready! 9 Awesome Makeup Products to Fight the Sweltering Summer

The sizzling summer heat is fast approaching! But don’t panic about melting foundation, smudged eyeliner or running mascara – check out these waterproof products with true staying power!

It can definitely seem easier to go totally makeup free when the hottest months of the year come around! After all, the summer heat can turn a face full of perfectly applied foundation in to a melted mess within minutes (I mean, sure the dewy look is pretty, but downright sweaty really is not)!

What’s more, that swimming pool may look like the ultimate relief from the heat, but you can bet your life it will make your mascara bleed all the way down to your chin! Disaster!

However, you don’t actually have to abandon your makeup altogether during the sweaty summer months, and there is no reason to feel self-conscious with pimples and dark circles on show when you want to take a dip in the pool! You simply need to adjust your products to suit the season-I’m talking about waterproof makeup!

Now, I know all too well about those disappointing products that promise amazing results only to fail at the first bead of sweat, so rest assured we’ve gathered a list of the very best tried and tested water and sweat proof cosmetics to save you the hassle of trial and error.

Our Waterproof Makeup Suggestions:

#1 Primer

A good primer will make your foundation last longer in any season so of course it’s especially important to use it in the summer! I suggest the award winning Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer! Light and oil free, this primer absorbs oils throughout the day and acts as a barrier between the humidity and your skin! Fabulous!

#2 Concealer

Lancome Effacernes Waterproof Protective Undereye Concealer is sweat and smudge proof and promises to cover your dark circles for at least 6 hours in the heat! What’s more, it is the perfect tool to prevent your eyeliner going south as the day goes on!

#3 Foundation

There are so many apparently ‘waterproof’ foundations out there that it can be hard to know where to start. I wholeheartedly recommend the oil free Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Foundation! It breathes through the heat, doesn’t fade and won’t even come off on your clothes! Not to mention it gives the most beautiful finish and comes in 31 shades!

If you’d prefer to wear something more lightweight in the heat then opt for a BB cream instead of foundation. Laura Geller All-In-One Perfecting Beauty Balm is a good water resistant choice; it also has SPF in it making it especially ideal for summer!

#4 Blush

When it comes to long lasting and sweat resistant blush, opt for cream instead of powder! Cream blushers are much more lightweight and sink into the skin whereas powders just sit on top and become cakey in the heat!

Take a look at Illuminare Ultimate All Day Blush – an oil absorbing matte blush and sunscreen in one, this natural looking blush gets a 10/10 from me! It is incredibly easy to blend and most importantly really does last all day!

#5 Bronzer

Usually I would tell you to stay away from powder bronzer in the heat and opt for the cream variety as above; however, Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer is a powder bronzer that is a cut above the rest! Its silk formula blends seamlessly into the skin and it somehow manages to withstand intense humidity and extreme moisture – you can even go swimming with it on!

#6 Eye Shadow

Once again, cream eye shadows are the way to go during the summer months! (Do you see a pattern emerging here?) Ditch the powder shadows and check out Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream Shadow! Available in 22 ultra pigmented shades, the cream really doesn’t smudge – even under the most extreme conditions! You can even use one of the pinky shades on your cheeks as a cream blush!

I’m also a huge fan of the new 2014 NYX Infinite Shadow Stick, which truly is both water and smudge proof – no creasing!

#7 Eyeliner

Clarins Waterproof Pencil

There’s a lot of choice when it comes to waterproof eyeliners but only 2 make the cut for me:

Clarins Waterproof Pencil is a luxuriously soft liner that is known for its intense colour, precision and staying power. It does what it says and stays fast through heat, sweat, tears…you name it!

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner also does what exactly what it says it should! In fact, it resists water so well it’s actually quite a feat to remove it at the end of the day.  So, if you want to sprinkle some cold water on your face to cool down or head to the beach for a splash in the sea then this is the eyeliner for you!

#8 Mascara

Mascara undoubtedly looks the worst of all products when it goes on the move in the heat! Those resulting raccoon eyes are just awful and beyond noticeable! Cosmetic companies know this so you may have noticed that nearly all makeup brands have their own version of waterproof mascara, in reality though very few do what they claim, well do it properly anyway!

I do, however, recommend Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara. It thickens and lengthens the lashes, doesn’t clump and will hold the curl! Most importantly though, it does truly mean ‘waterproof’ by not budging through sun, sea, sweat and tears all day long!

Bobbi Brown No Smudge Mascara is also another reliable product providing smudge-free lashes for 16 hours!

#9 Lipstick

Waterproof lipstick used to be a pretty hard thing to find, but more and more brands are starting to develop their own versions.

Mac Pro Long Wear Lip Colour and Maybelline Super Stay Lipstick are good choices lasting 8 hours!

My first choice, however, is definitely Make Up Forever Waterproof Liquid Lip Colour – available in 12 highly pigmented shades and seriously long lasting! There is even a waterproof lip liner to match!

So, adjust your makeup products to suit the season and really enjoy the summer months! Sweat without fear, take a dip in the pool and laugh until you cry – your makeup can take all of it!
