6 Tips to Throw a Fantastic 80’s Party

The 80’s were quite an interesting era. I don’t know about you, but I really like to reminisce about those times every now and again. At times like this, I throw an 80’s party. Now, I don’t want to brag, but I’ve been known to throw some great parties and I want to share my experience and know-how with you. Follow these tips and throw a fantastic 80’s party.

1. Invitations

When throwing a party, of course, you have to invite people to come. This is something that can get really interesting when it comes to 80’s theme party.

It would be great if you could send invitations via good old snail mail, as it would have been
done in the 80’s. Anyhow, try to avoid the electronic invitation. If you decide in favor of snail mail, make your invitations interesting. They should contain all the things that were fun and popular in the 80’s, like cassettes or vintage video game designs. Make them colorful, it was all about colors in the 80’s.

On the other hand, if you don’t have enough time to make and send invitations, invite people by phone. Try to make it as authentic as possible.

2. Clothes

Throwing an 80’s theme party implies a costume party. Make sure you mention this in the invitation and maybe even give your guests a couple of ideas.

When it comes to your look – well, you guessed it – early Madonna! Although that would be a good choice, it is not your only option; you can choose to be a Smurfette, Cyndi Lauper or dress up as a Rubik’s cube.
Choose a unique costume. Make it interesting and unusual.

3. Music

You need to gather a bunch of 80’s music for your 80’s theme party. The actual music you will play, of course, depends on your taste, but there is a lot to choose from. 80’s were a period that introduced a lot of different musical styles and you are sure to find something you will like.

Furthermore, for the most authentic 80’s atmosphere, visit your attic, or your parent’s attic. The purpose of this visit would be to find the old cassette player that is hopefully still working and all of your old cassettes. It would be a wonderful idea to play music from the cassettes. However, they could be really damaged, so make sure you check them before the party and leave enough time to come up an alternative.

Of course, if you can’t get a hold on a cassette player and cassettes, your computer will do a great job. The only rule is that the music is from the 80’s.

4. Food and Drinks

Pepperoni and Sausage Pizza with Beer

When it comes to food and drinks for your awesome 80’s party, not much of it has changed. You can never go wrong with serving pizza and beer or coke. You can also include some finger food like pigs in a blanket. Mini sandwiches are a great idea too.

For snacks, put out a bowl of tortilla chips and maybe a taco salad. Make your desert as 80’s as possible – for example, order a packman cake. Let your imagination flow and you are sure to throw a great party.

5. Decoration and Gifts

It would be great to decorate the place in the 80’s style. Put up a lot of posters of the bands from the 80’s and decorate the room with pink and black ribbons. Borrowing a couple of light sabers from your brother or a male friend would be totally cool. Trust me; this will amaze all the guys at your party.

It would be great if you could afford a small gift for every person at your party. Buy some mini Rubik’s cubes, colorful hair bands, rubber bracelets, basically anything you can afford as long as it is associated with the 80’s. Your guests will remember that party for a long time.

6. Games

You can either choose vintage video games, or board games. In any case, make sure that everyone can participate, you don’t want anyone to feel left out.

You probably have a Twister somewhere in the house. If you don’t, you can still buy it today and it’s a great 80’s game. You can also always play battleship, you just need enough pens and paper. For video games choose Packman, Donkey Kong or anything else you played on your Nintendo.

Follow these steps and throw an amazing 80’s party. Your friends will have a fantastic time and so will you. For additional great tips, visit Like Totally 80s.
