The materials used for bathing suits fade so easily, and the sea salt combined with the sun and all the swimming pool chemicals usually speed up the process. When you’re on vacation, the last thing you want is a worn out bikini that looks older than you are – especially if you just bought it! Learn how to treat a bathing suit and keep it looking fresh and new for seasons to come:
Wash It Regularly
You should wash your bathing suit after every use. Never put it in a washing machine – even the most delicate cycle will do it harm.
When washing your bathing suit, it’s best to leave it in a sink filled with cold water and mild soap or baby shampoo for about 10 minutes. Then rinse it thoroughly with cold water. Squeeze out the water and hang it out to dry.
Be Gentle
Always wash your bathing suit by hand. Be careful not to sit on a rough edge – it’s always better to sit on a towel. Never put your bathing suit in the dryer – this makes the suit wear out more quickly. Leave it to dry naturally – either in your room or outside. Remember – it needs about 24 hours to dry completely, so make sure you have at least two suits so that each one of them can dry before you wear them again.
Read the Labels
There is no bathing suit suitable for all summer activities – swimming in the sea, hanging by the pool, relaxing in a hot tub, sunbathing… You should have a different suit for all these activities.
For example, some bathing suits have a “chlorine resistant” label, which means they’re perfect for days at the pool. Others are meant for hot tube use. Read the labels and make sure you use your bathing suit right. Another thing you should avoid is going for a swim and then sunbathing in the exact same suit. The salt or the swimming pool chemicals will, combined with the sun, make the suit fade more quickly.
