1. Maggie Lord – Rustic Wedding Chic

1. Maggie Lord – Rustic Wedding Chic

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Passionate, Hardworking, Stylish, Elegant, Chic, Creative, Dedicated.

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

RusticWeddingChic.com came out of a very organic place, I was planning my own rustic chic wedding and fell flat when looking for ideas and inspiration so I set out to create a blog where couples and brides could find ideas and images to help them plan their big day.

After the popularity of RusticWeddingChic.com I created RusticWeddingGuide.com so couples could be connected with venues and vendors who could help them bring their big day to life.

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

My biggest planning tip to all brides and couples out there is don’t take on too many DIY projects. I know everything looks great on Pinterest and it seems easy enough to be able to create it yourself but you actually might find yourself more stressed out and spending more money this way.

Another important thing to remember is to take some time for yourself and enjoy the planning process – it goes so quickly so stop sometimes and just enjoy being engaged!

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your dream honeymoon destination?

I would love to visit Dubrovnik, Croatia – I know this location has become very popular with couples for a honeymoon and it seems like a dream come true.

2. The Feminist Bride

2. The Feminist Bride

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Beleaguered bride, fun feminist, inquisitive mind, champion of equality!

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

The Feminist Bride stands out among other wedding sites and how-to books because it’s the only source that doesn’t tell the bride what to do, buy or how to act, and it doesn’t insist on traditions without context.

The Feminist Bride answers many relevant, but unanswered, modern day questions that prospective brides, feminists, and those interested in modernizing marriage actually care about: Is living in sin really so bad?

Why don’t men wear engagement rings? Is it acceptable for bridal parties to hit up the strip clubs too? Why can’t the groom change his last name instead? And what’s with all the bachelorette penis tiaras?

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Approach all recommendations and advice with healthy skepticism and a maybe a glass of wine… There’s always way more to any wedding tradition than meets the eye.

Real respect towards tradition means learning its history and symbolism and accepting that what you learn might not be perfect enough for your wedding day.

Luckily, The Feminist Bride helps all fiances navigate and improve upon obsolete traditions by updating them so they match fiances’ modern lives and treats them with the utmost respect!

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your dream honeymoon destination?

A honeymoon is a great time to take risks and step outside one’s travel comfort zone more so then nap on the beach (but that can be awesome too).

What better way to build really unique memories and start a life together than having a shared adventure while supporting each other through it – be it backpacking through Asia, learning to scuba dive, hiking to Machu Picchu, exploring one’s heritage or biking through Napa.

3. The Overwhelmed Bride

3. The Overwhelmed Bride

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Authentic, perfectionist, dreamer, mommy, creative, passionate, determined

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

The Overwhelmed Bride is different from most wedding blogs because rather than being just a source of beautiful wedding inspiration, we cover many aspects of a bride-to-be’s current lifestyle.

We offer marriage articles to prepare for that big step in life, health and fitness information to ensure she not only feels her best for the big day but prepares for a long, healthy, and happy life with her new husband, date night ideas (since dating is oh-so-important to any marriage), and practical wedding planning tips and advice such as “how to’s” and the questions every bride asks throughout the planning process.

Oh, and of course we share tons of beautiful inspiration too.

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

My top tip for brides is to always keep marriage at the core of planning and even if something goes wrong, just always remember that the marriage is the purpose of the wedding day – not the decorations, the photos, or the small details.

If you are marriage at the end of the day, then your wedding was perfection (no matter how may “mishaps” occurred). And I need to squeeze in one more piece of advice for planning since it is so important – Make sure you actually like your wedding vendors as human beings.

You are going to be spending a lot of time with them over the next year and on your wedding day so if they aren’t nice, you aren’t going to love their work no matter how great their portfolio may be!

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your dream honeymoon destination?

Well there are so many places that I would love to travel to because I just love to travel. We chose to go on a cruise for our honeymoon so that we could not only experience multiple locations, but it’s all inclusive and there is no stress traveling to and from locations.

So cruises are highly recommended for a stress-free honeymoon experience. But if I had to choose one specific location to go back to, I would choose Greece!

4. Offbeat Bride

4. Offbeat Bride

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Inclusive, nerdy, colorful, bold, loving, foul-mouthed. :P

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

It’s really the inclusivity. We believe strongly that young, white, straight couples aren’t the only people who get married and we love celebrating the weddings of folks who you just don’t see on other wedding sites.

We have extensive archives dedicated to LGBT weddings, disabilities, plus size, older couples, and more. It’s important for us to support ALL people getting married!

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Explore nontraditional wedding planning not just because it’s a great way to express who you are and have an authentic wedding, but also because it can be a great way to save money!

The cost differences between a Saturday night traditional wedding in a ballroom vs a Sunday morning brunch wedding at a bookstore cafe are astounding — get creative! We’ve got a million ideas about how…

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your dream honeymoon destination?

Aim for RELAXATION. Yes, we love adventuring and backpacking across Europe, too — but after your wedding, you might be exhausted and just want a vacation. :)

5. Jessica Bishop – The Budget Savvy Bride

5. Jessica Bishop - The Budget Savvy Bride

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

A savvy and approachable wedding resource

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

The Budget Savvy Bride is an incredible resource for brides on a budget. We share realistic inspiration, real wedding budget breakdowns, and helpful DIY projects to help couples plan a beautiful wedding for less!

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Our number one tip is to figure out your budget before you start planning! The budget is the most stressful area when it comes to planning your wedding, so sit down and crunch those numbers ASAP to find out how much you can realistically afford to spend.

You should have that total number decided before you start booking a single vendor or even an appointment. You can’t stick to a budget that hasn’t been set, so getting this out of the way from the get-go will help ensure you don’t overspend.

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your dream honeymoon destination?

Nothing says honeymoon and romance like a tropical destination! Anywhere with a beach and drinks with tiny umbrellas gets my vote.

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Creative, Caring, Relatable, Independent, Adventurous, Compassionate, Determined

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

I started my blog to help and reach brides in need of inspiration and guidance for their wedding planning. It has evolved into a relatable space featuring all sorts of weddings along with offering lifestyle, wedding and beauty tips that caters to all aspects of a woman’s life.

My goal is to empower, inspire and be a voice for women as they go through relationships, marriage, building a family and so on.

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

The best wedding planning tip I can offer is something I personally learned during my own wedding planning. Through all of the decisions stay true to who you are and what you both like for your wedding day.

There is so much information and inspiration online that can cause confusion so my advice is to only choose colors, details, and things you like for your wedding day and not what seems to be trending or what others may like. In the end, it is your day and should reflect your style.

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your tip for dream honeymoon destination?

No matter where you go on your honeymoon, it’s going to be a fabulous trip as newlyweds! Make sure to research climate and seasons of particular locations you want to go to. Off season travel to a location will be less expensive and a trip during hurricane season may not be the best.

7. Sara Burnett – Burnetts Boards

7. Sara Burnett – Burnetts Boards

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Inspirational, editorial, global, edgy, unique, elegant, creative.

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

Burnett’s Boards features mostly editorial shoots, which really allows creatives to think outside of the box and show what can be done – they dream big! You’ll never be bored visiting this blog daily.

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

The best tip I can offer is to have your wedding on your own terms. Do what you two want to do, not what society or family demands via social norms. You want to wear a hot pink dress and serve tacos from a food truck – do it! You want a church wedding overflowing with white roses – do it!

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your tip for dream honeymoon destination?

Think adventure. Honeymoons are not just about relaxing after your wedding. Shared experiences (sailing, scuba, hiking, exploring etc) will bond you like nothing else can.

8. Catalyst Wedding

8. Catalyst Wedding

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Feminist, feisty, authentic, disruptive, diverse, inclusive, outspoken

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

Catalyst Wed Co. is a community for wedding disrupters, creators, and critics alike. We publish Catalyst Wedding Magazine, the first-ever print wedding magazine with a feminist consciousness, and we host a traveling workshop, {un}convention, for progressive vendors who are passionate about working with diverse, down-to-earth, crazy-in-love couples.

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Probably half of the wedding content you find on the internet has been styled by wedding professionals using models. Styled shoots are an awesome creative outlet for artists, but don’t take them too seriously and let them guide your own expectations for your wedding.

Stay focused on celebrating love rather than performing for an audience or trying to recreate a “perfect” wedding. Your memories of your day will be so much better if you let joy be your guide rather than Pinterest.

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your tip for dream honeymoon destination?

Backpacking, beaching, traveling, lounging, staycation… whatever floats your boat and doesn’t break the bank!

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Friendly, creative, geeky, ambitious, perfectionist, mummy, outdoorsy.

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

I like to think that Whimsical Wonderland Weddings is a welcoming and inclusive space. A place to escape and plan your perfect wedding whatever your style or budget.

I have also spoken a lot about my personal battle with anxiety and the cancellation of our wedding back in 2010 (last year we tied the knot in a secret woodland ceremony).

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Be yourself through and through. Sit down together and work out the things you both love, then plan your day accordingly. Don’t overlook hiring a great photographer, searching for unconventional venues and catering or getting crafty to pack a real personality punch.

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your tip for dream honeymoon destination?

Go somewhere you always dreamed of exploring together, also try to include a mix of adventure and relaxation for the trip of a lifetime.

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Motivated, friendly, easy-going, creative, reasonable, adventurer, goal-oriented.

2. What is that “special touch” what makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

In addition to being a niche blog about budget weddings in Vancouver, I write the way I think or speak. It’s conversational and I feel it reaches people better. I also draw from my own personal experiences quite a bit when I think of topics to cover.

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

One of my top recommendations is to know what you can afford right before you start planning. With a concrete budget down, it’s easier to prioritize what to spend money on and hopefully keep you grounded during the planning process.

As in, if you know that venue A will eat up 50% of your budget, you can quickly nix that idea and go for the more affordable venue B. It saves a bit of disappointment and hassle.

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your tip for dream honeymoon destination?

I’m hooked on Europe right now, particularly Germany, but the French Riviera would be very nice for a romantic and relaxing honeymoon.

11. Sonia Collett – Want That Wedding

11. Sonia Collett - Want That Wedding

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Chatty, silly, compassionate, romantic, thinker and… wedding obsessed!

2. What is that “special touch” what makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

Lots of people in the industry said that when I started Want That Wedding I needed a niche… I’m not really a niche person as my tastes are varied and quite eclectic and continuously evolving.

Want that Wedding is special as it offers wedding inspiration, ideas and advice for women exactly like me. It’s ok to love boho, vintage, quirky, indie and ridiculously pretty all at once!!

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

My number one tip for brides and grooms planning their wedding days is… do not scrimp on wedding photography. Budget as much money as you can afford and do not entrust it to a friend or relative to save money.

So much thought, money and love goes into your big day and as cliche as it sounds, your day really does go by in a flash – pay a talented professional to preserve all your beautiful wedding memories forever. It will be money well spent.

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your tip for a dream honeymoon destination?

Honeymoons like weddings are completely unique and personal so do and go wherever your heart desires. From my own personal experience though, I would recommend going somewhere you can relax together and wind down after all the wedding madness.

12. Tracy Osborn – Wedding Lovely

Tracy Osborn

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Friendly, welcoming, down-to-earth, honest, hard-working, enthusiastic, and talented!

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

We work really hard to make sure to be “real” — we’re not a corporation, we’re not a huge team, we’re a small-business just like the other small-businesses we work with!

I really just want to make sure we’re helping other businesses as much as possible while also being inspiring and reassuring (since wedding planning can be nutty!) to the brides and grooms we work with.

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Find out what really, truly matters to you! Don’t feel compelled to have the same wedding as everyone else — make sure it’s personal and all about you and your love.

Weddings aren’t one-size-fits-all, and you can do as many or as little “traditions” as you like! We had a lovely couple email us asking whether they had to have an even number of bridesmaids and groomsmen.

Of course not! Make your wedding your own and don’t worry too much about doing what others are doing. :)

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your tip for dream honeymoon destination?

I personally visited Lake Bled in Slovenia last summer and it would be such a great honeymoon destination for an outdoorsy couple.

The lake is *gorgeous* and so romantic, and there are so many amazing things you can do in the area, like canyoning, mountaineering, and rafting. It’s beautiful and not that expensive of a destination!

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

When it comes to making decisions about your wedding day – we say if it doesn’t make you and your fiancé happy, then don’t do it! Rock My Wedding was founded on the principle of ‘Your Day, Your Way.’ If a certain tradition doesn’t suit you, then just ignore it!

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your tip for dream honeymoon destination?

4. If we could travel anywhere in the world on honeymoon right now, it would be to the Maldives. The color of the sky, sea and sand is blissful. It would be like heading to Paradise.

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Creative, Free-spirited, Unconventional, Artistic, Intuitive, Curious,Dynamic

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

Intimate Weddings is the go-to site for small weddings (less than 75 guests) and elopements. We’re all about keeping the ‘real’ in real weddings.

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Pay for your own wedding. That way you can call the shots when it comes to your guest list, which should include your dog, because dogs have a really good time at weddings. (At least mine did!)

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your tip for dream honeymoon destination?

Which destination is at the top of your bucket list? Why not elope there and have your honeymoon there as well? Eloping has never been more popular. It saves money, it’s less stressful, and you get to go on an adventure with the person you love the most.

Hire a great photographer and/or videographer, who will capture all your special moments. When you return home, throw a fun, casual party with friends and family where you can show off all your beautiful photos.

15. DIY Bride

15. DIY Bride

1 .You in 7 descriptive words?

Classic, clean, fun, pretty, creative, realistic, attainable

2. What is that “special touch” that makes your blog/work different/unique/authentic?

We’re two women who love to DIY, but we’re realistic about it. We focus on projects that even first time DIYers could do.

3. Exclusive wedding planning tip, how to or recommendation for YouQueen readers?

Our biggest tip is to focus on the end goal: being married. Don’t sweat the small stuff- at the end of the day, you’ll be married to the love of your life & no one will remember if your bouquets were the wrong shade.

4. YouQueen’s Question: What would be your tip for dream honeymoon destination?

It depends on the couple. Choose somewhere that embodies your relationship. You can be adventurous in Hawaii, relax in the Caribbean islands, or explore Europe. They’d all be amazing, but it’s what works for the couple.
