Summer is a time for leisure and what could be more divine than sipping cocktails (or mocktails, depending on the hour of the day) in a beach bar?
It’s time to close the laptop, turn off the cellphone and toss your worries out the window. It’s time to chill on the beach!
1. Baba Nest, Thailand
It’s a rooftop bar on the beach, surrounded by an infinity pool and with views of the ocean. Try to wrap your head around that one! Chairs? Forget about chairs – here you chill sitting on bean bags. It’s about as relaxed as it can get.
This is a once in a lifetime kind of experience. Unless you live here, of course. Then it’s a “I live in paradise” kind of experience.
2. The Shimmy Beach Club, Cape Town
This place is as posh as it gets (in Cape Town that is) and is a popular place for locals to hang out during the weekend. It’s right on the ocean with a pool (given the water is pretty darn cold in Cape Town, you might need it) and there’s a 13 meter bar and a view of Table Mountain.
It’s the perfect place for sundowners (drinks at sunset). Which is an excuse the locals use for any day, really.
3. Da Conch Shack, Turks & Caicos Islands
If you want a beach bar that’s literally on the beach, where you can sit by colorful tables underneath the shade of palms trees, then this could be the bar for you. Fish served straight out of the ocean pretty much.
4. Purobeach, Tivat, Montenegro
Ever fancied anchoring your boat by the beach bar? That’s exactly what you can do at Burobeach. You can also have a massage by the bar. This is a place to chill whilst indulging in luxury. Who can resist?
5. Rock Bar, Bali, Indonesia
This bar is what it says: on the rocks. A stunning view and music to keep you dancing through the night – this is a place for a night of partying. Or staring out over the ocean with a ridiculous smile on your face, whilst surrounded by a party crowd.
6. Badeschiff, Berlin, Germany
A beach bar in the midst of Berlin? Yes, it’s possible. You might not want to hop into the river for a swim, but thankfully there’s a floating pool And some sand surrounding it. Oh and a bar, of course.
7. Z-Plage, Cannes, France

If you want to rub elbows with celebrities, then head to Z-Plage. This bar is literally situated in the ocean – you walk out onto a bridge, sit down and are offered table service. Might be an occasion for champagne.
8. Fontelina Beach Club, Capri, Italy
This is another fancy place, place right on the cliffs by the ocean and perfect for watching people dive off said cliffs into the ocean. It’s also very secluded – you have to either walk down a very steep path to get there, or arrive by boat.
Maybe it’s worth it though, given stars like Bridget Bardot and Sophia Loren have been there. If energy rubs off, maybe you’ll pick up some star sparkle.
9. Moonshadows, Malibu, California
I had to add this place – anyone living in L.A. knows about it and anyone visiting should know about it. A fancy bar and restaurant just on the water’s edge in Malibu. Sit on the terrace with a cocktail, or a glass of wine, and watch…the moon shadows… Whilst listening to Cat Stevens. Naturally.
10. Mulino Beach Bar, Rovinj, Croatia
With a view of a medical city this bar is a bridge between the old world and the new as it serves vintage wines whilst pumping out electronic beats. And as it goes, it’s not a bad combination. If you like electronic beats and vintage wines, that is.
11. Beach Club One, Reethi Rah, Maldives
This beach club is on the beach, surrounded by palm trees and turquoise water. In fact, it looks like one of those adverts for tropical paradise. Inclusive of massages, naturally. If you feel like relaxing, whilst drinking rosé on tap, this is the place to be.
12. La Susana, José Ignacio, Uruguay
José Ignacio was once a sleepy fishing village, which was discovered by hippies and, low and behold, the rich and famous, who wanted to go on vacations to rest, relax and party undisturbed.
Of course, as soon as they came things started to change though. Still, it’s a quaint place to visit and La Susana is a bar and restaurant attached to a retreat where you can relax in one of the cabanas, or sit on the beach with a drink. It’s a gathering spot you don’t want to miss out on.
13. Canibal Royal, Playa del Carmen, Brazil
If you fancy tacos on the beach, then head to Brazil for drinks and chillaxing, straight on the beach at Canibal Royal!
There are so many great beach bars around the world you could spend all summer (and winter) beach bar hopping. All you need is a round the world ticket and enough cash to pay for drinks. Or enough smiles to make others pay for you…
