YQ: Mihano Momosa is an established brand today, but it must have taken a lot of time, effort and patience. Tell us how it all started. When did you first realize this was what you wanted to do?

Mihano Momosa: Ever since I was a little boy I used to spend a lot of time with my aunt who is a seamstress and I enjoyed looking at her work. When I was a college student I started working as a stylist and that’s when I realised that fashion is what I really want to do. After a couple of years of experience I was bold enough to start working on my own collection. The rest is history.

YQ: The brand Mihano Momosa is devoted to making a woman feel like a princess, making her feel like her life is some sort of a modern fairytale. Is this fairytale feeling easy to accomplish? How do you manage to do it?

Mihano Momosa: It’s actually much easier than people think. It’s a state of mind, a decision that we make in order to maintain our inner happiness. It has a lot to do with our relationship with ourselves, but it’s really just us who choose to live in a fairytale.

YQ: Is there a particular woman or maybe a particular kind of woman in your head when you are creating? Who/what is the muse of Mihano Momosa?

Mihano Momosa: I create for any woman who sees herself as unique, she is self confident, brave, mature but she acknowledges her inner child and doesn’t give up on her childhood dream of being a princess.

YQ: Your pieces are characterized by pastel colors, floral prints and embellishments and a pinch of romance. Do you think every woman can pull off such pieces? Are all ladies this feminine?

Mihano Momosa: Every woman is feminine to a certain extent, the question is if she embraces this femininity the way I think that they should. Of course, not every woman can see herself wearing one of my dresses, but my idea is to create for a woman that recognizes the emotion I am sharing through my collections.

YQ: What was the most difficult thing about establishing your brand and finding a place for yourself in the world of fashion? Were there challenges that made you want to give up? If so, how did you manage to keep going?

Mihano Momosa: To be quite honest, I did not have any difficulties. There are daily challenges that I have to address, but I knew what I wanted to do and no obstacle was big enough to discourage me.

YQ: What do you think about women’s fashion nowadays? Has it lost its femininity and sense of romance to revealing pieces at an attempt to look sexy?

Mihano Momosa: I support diversity. Not everyone is the same, I love the fact that women have wide range of choices and that everyone can build their own personal style. We all have a different idea of sexy and everyone should have the liberty to express themselves the way that they find appropriate.

YQ: Who do you think are the biggest style icons of this generation and why? Is there a celebrity whose style inspires you?

Mihano Momosa: No one in particular. I enjoy seeing people staying true to themselves, but I have my own direction and I am not really influenced by a single person.

YQ: Speaking of inspiration, what inspires you? Is it fashion, other forms or art or everyday life?

Mihano Momosa: It’s always love that inspires me the most. However, sometimes it’s just a song that I hear or ordinary life situation that starts my creative process. It can really be anything that provokes my emotions.

YQ: What is your personal definition of the word ‘fashion’? How about the word ‘style’?

Mihano Momosa: To put it simply, fashion is what you are being offered, style is what you choose.

YQ: You live and work in Serbia. How is the fashion scene there different/same compared to the rest of Europe and rest of the world?

Mihano Momosa: Serbia is a small market, but people here really enjoy fashion, and there are a lot of people who do not regret spending time or money to find that one piece of clothing that they desire. There are a lot of talented designers as well. The market itself has its challenges but I don’t think it is much better or worse than any other.

YQ: What are you working on at the moment? Are there any dreams or plans you haven’t accomplished yet? Any interesting projects coming up?

Mihano Momosa: I have just launched Prefall 2015 collection. No big plans at the moment, I am taking it one step at a time.

YQ: You seem to really understand women and their ideas of beauty and style. For all the Queens reading our magazine – tell us, what is the secret to looking and feeling beautiful?

Mihano Momosa: Self-confidence. You can have the most expensive, popular dress but if you are not feeling it, it’s just a piece of fabric. Staying true to yourself matters too. When a woman feels good from the inside, she will have this indescribable glow and that’s what it’s all about.
