The Best Movies Of 2016 (So Far)

Heading to the movies to watch the lasted box office hit is always fun, but now that we’re into the second half of 2016, check out the best movies of 2016 (so far) that made more than a splash in the theaters.

There’s a never-ending list of movies that come out every year, and it’s hard keeping track of all the trailers and actors that we see hitting the big screen. Although 2016 is far from over, there have been huge box office hits that have definitely left an impression on its viewers.

You might’ve missed your chance to see these movies in theaters, but you should definitely be on the lookout for when these movies come out on DVD or On Demand.

Captain America: Civil War

If you’re a fan of the Marvel movies, you’re in for a treat with its newest release. Captain America: Civil War is the third installment of the Captain America film franchise and the thirteenth in the Marvel Universe.

With the classic cast, this movie follows Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. as Captain America and Iron Man, respectively, with appearances from other characters like Black Widow and Hawkeye.

We see the Winter Soldier and Falcon make re-appearances in the Captain America film series and new characters like Black Panther appear. The film follows the Avengers struggle as the U.N. tries to keep them and their actions under control while the villain causes trouble at the U.N. and with the Winter Soldier to lead Tony Stark to the ultimate truth about his parents’ death.

Zootopia

Who said adults can’t watch children movies? Whether you’re watching for yourself or with younger children, Zootopia was a must watch film this year. With celebrities like Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, and Idris Elba, this film did extremely well at the box office. The movie surrounds a rabbit cop, Judy, and a red fox, Nick, who try to solve the mystery behind disappearing animals in their world of Zootopia.

The Jungle Book

While most are familiar with the cartoon version of The Jungle Book, 2016 brought about the release of a live action version. A captivating retelling of the original story, the film follows Mowgli, an orphan who is lead through the jungle by a group of animal companions. Like the classic story, he tries to evade tiger, Shere Khan. While Neel Sethi makes his debut appearance as Mowgli, the voices of the film are made up by celebrities like Bill Murray, Idris Elba, and Scarlett Johansson.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice

For all the DC Comics lovers out there, 2016 brought the anticipated sequel of Man of Steel. After Christian Bale’s departure from the Batman franchise, we see Ben Affleck as Batman join Superman, Henry Cavill. In this film, we are introduced to characters Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg. The story follows Batman and Superman who both think each other is a threat to society while they try to stop Lex Luthor and his maniacal plans.

Deadpool

A perfect mixture of action and laughs, Deadpool follows the story of Wade Wilson who after finding he has cancer, undergoes an out-of-this-world treatment which gives him ultra-healing capabilities but leaves him with scars all over his body. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds who’s on a mission to track down and kill the man responsible for his operation. The eighth installment of the X-Men series, Deadpool is the first to be rated R, so be sure to leave the kiddies elsewhere.

Finding Dory

Probably the most anticipated film release of 2016, Finding Dory is the HIGHLY anticipated sequel to Finding Nemo. It took 13 years for the sequel to come out and still stars Ellen Degeneres and Albert Brooks as Dory and Marlin, respectively. Finding Dory follows Dory as she tries to remember her memories and track down her parents.

X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men: Apocalyspe is the ninth installment in the X-Men film franchise and continues in the pre-dated times before the first movies in the series. The movie follows younger Charles Xavier and Mystique who try to stop Apocalypse as he plans to take over Charles’ mind to enslave all the Mutants of the world. The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence as they reprise their roles as Professor Xavier, Magneto, and Mystique.

Kung Fu Panda 3

The third installment in the Kung Fu Panda film series, this movie brings back Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, and Angelina Jolie in the roles of Po, Master Shifu, and Master Tigress. The movie follows Po as he trains to defeat Kai who is out to steal his chi.

Warcraft

For all the video game lovers, Warcraft takes the game and creates the perfect fantasy film. Set in the video game world of Azeroth, this film follows orcs and humans in Draenor who set out to find out how their portal is being destroyed by a force known as fel magic. The movie stars Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, and Ben Foster.

Central Intelligence

If you’re looking for a night filled with laughs, Central Intelligence starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart is a great pick and a definite box office hit. This film stars ‘a little Hart and a big Johnson’ who were high school friends as they try to thwart the criminal, Black Badger, from stealing satellite codes and millions of dollars.

The first half of 2016 had a major set of movies that did extremely well with fans. If the first half of the year is any indication, we can imagine that the rest of 2016 will include a great roster of films, as well.
