Become A Modern Mermaid: Be Unique And Copy Ariel’s Style

It’s a classic Disney tale. While “The Little Mermaid” may be an old movie, her style is classic and as popular as ever. Here’s how to imitate it.

In this article, I will show you how to become Ariel from “The Little Mermaid”—better yet, become a modern mermaid. Girl, you know that you want to be where the merpeople are!

Never be afraid to be who you really are, whether it’s a mermaid or not. Always speak your truth and never let anyone take your voice!

1. How to get that mermaid makeup look.

Ariel does not wear a lot of makeup. She was sixteen in the movie, and while sixteen-year-olds now wear more makeup than twenty-year-olds, that wasn’t the case in 1989. The times have changed, and if you are going to be a modern mermaid, you have to do your makeup up a little more than Ariel would have done.

A tip I learned from Kylie Jenner is that, to make you look come out better, you should do your eye makeup first. This ensures that no eyeshadow fallout messes up your foundation. You go in with Elf smudge pot in Cruisin Chic on your ring finger because it’s your most gentle finger. You put it all over your eyelid, then you go in with the Elf contour eyeshadow brush with Maybelline’s The Nudes palette.

Using the second darkest matte brown eye shadow, start from the middle of your eyelid and work out. Using that same shade, take it from the outside corner and into your crease. Using the cream sparkling eyeshadow, now work from the middle of your eye to the inner corner. Lastly, use the elf professional blending eye brush and the white sparkling shade to blend out the harsh lines of your crease. Using that same color, highlight your brow bone.

To make your eyes stand out more, use the Elf cream eyeliner pot with the Elf small angled brush and wing out your eyeliner. This makes your eyes pop and gives the impression of bigger eyes, which I’ve heard is sexy. The last thing to do is your mascara. I recommend the Megavolume Wet N Wild mascara. Now that your eyes are don, it’s time to do your foundation!

Remember that your face should as smooth as possible—you’re a mermaid! All that salt water must do wonders for the skin. Using the CoverGirl trublend in 405, you should put two pumps of the foundation onto the foundation brush.

Tap out the foundation on your face and buffer it all into your face. Be sure to drag some foundation down onto your neck to make sure that your neck and face are the same complexion.

I also use concealer because I have bad dark circles and acne. If you don’t feel like you need concealer, feel free to skip this step. Dab Maybelline’s Fit Me concealer in 15 on your problem areas and make a triangle under you eye bags.

Next, use your concealer brush to buffer out the concealer. Don’t forget to set all of this. Using the expert powder brush by Icing, take Maybelline Fit Me pressed powder in 110 and buffer it all over your face to set the liquid foundation and concealer.

To pull the whole look together, you’ll need bronzer and blush. Use the Mac bronzer brush and Mac’s golden bronzer. Sweep the bronzer across your cheekbones, your neck bone and your temples. Using Icing’s expert powder brush, buffer the bronzer so that there are no harsh lines; use the same brush and NYX’s pinched blush just under your bronzer to get that naturally flushed look that mermaids love!

Finish up with a touch of your favorite Chapstick and Wet N Wild’s Pink Ice lipstick on top of that. Your mermaid makeup is now complete!

2. Mermaid beach waves.

Mermaid Beach Waves

Mermaids have incredible long hair and the longer the hair, the harder it is to curl. Every time I want to curl my hair, I talk myself out of it because it’s so time-consuming. The final product is definitely worth the time though—or at least I think it is.

I’ve learned that the best way to curl long hair is to just do it and not stress about it. I use the Conair You Curl curling wand. This wand saves my life! I curl my hair differently to most people though.

I generally do not part my hair as it’s easier for me not to. Instead, I take small parts of my hair and wrap them very loosely around my curling wand. For me, this makes perfect beachy waves.

Secure the curls with Garnier Fructis Style Deconstructed Beach Chic Extra Strong Hold Texturizing Spray to make the curls stay in all day.

3. Flaunt the mermaid clothes!

The perfect outfit for a modern mermaid is a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Mermaids are not used to dresses or fancy outfits. My go-to mermaid outfit is a shirt from Adorkable Apparel.

This shirt has two seashells on it, which represents our humble beginnings and reminds me of what we are at heart. Although you can pair your shirt with any jeans you want, I recommend a pair of skinny jeans with holes in them. After all, you just got those legs and you need to show them off!

To finish this look, throw on your favorite pair of heels and you’re a modern mermaid! Roam the streets in the technicolor of the ocean.

So there it is: you are now a mermaid! With these three easy to follow tips, you’ll be the Ariel’s twin in no time. The only question now is: Do you want to live on land with the thingamabobs or under the sea? Feel free to adapt any of these ideas to suit your own unique preferences and let me know how you get on.
