How To Maintain Your Teeth And Achieve Sparkling White Smile

There’s nothing more beautiful than a healthy, sparkling smile! It does, however, require some tender loving care on your part in order to maintain the smile you deserve.

Your smile is usually the first thing people notice when they meet you for the first time. It portrays your personality and personal hygiene in more ways than you can imagine, which is why it’s extremely important to take care of your pearly whites to avoid costly visits to the dentist.

There are a few things you can do on a daily basis that will not only maintain your beautiful pearly whites, but might even enhance them a little bit.

1. Avoid smoking

This may be a tough one for some people at first, but it’s better for you in the long run. Nicotine damages more than your lungs. Over time, your teeth will become stained, not to mention fall out.

There’s not much you can do about that, unless you invest a lot of money in repairing the damage.

2. Chew gum

Chewing sugar-free gum creates saliva, which breaks down the acid in your mouth, minimizing the effects of some of the foods you eat. Apart from the acidic breakdown, it also ensures fresh breath.

Choose sugar-free gum in order to avoid cavities and unpleasant dentist visits.

3. Go for regular check ups

It’s always a great idea to visit your dentist at least once a year not only to check for any cavities, but to give you a proper cleaning—the type only your dentist can do!

They can also prevent cavities or stop newly forming ones in their tracks and save you the discomfort and pain of having to walk around with an infection until the dentist can finally see you.

4. Consume alcohol in moderation

Red wine is a BIG no-no when it comes to keeping your smile bright and white. Studies have shown that drinking one glass a day is good for your heart, but try to consume it in moderation or add it as an ingredient to your cooking.

The last thing you want is heavily stained teeth and a serious headache due to drinking.

5. Cut down on the coffee

We all need a caffeine fix every once in a while, but coffee is a big contributor to stained teeth. If you absolutely cannot live without coffee, try a toothpaste that’s specifically formulated for smokers and coffee drinkers.

That way, you can enjoy your one or two cups a day without feeling guilty and not risk staining your teeth slowly.

6. Brush before bed

ALWAYS brush your teeth before bed, no matter how tired you may be. Your partner and gums will thank you. You don’t want to end up paying your dentist to fix something you could’ve prevented by simply brushing!

Remember to brush gently though. It’s no use brushing your teeth to prevent cavities if you brush your gums away. While you’re at it, opt for a toothpaste with teeth whitener in it to take care of two jobs at once, which brings me to my next point…

7. Opt for teeth whiteners

They’re a good way to add a little sparkle to your smile. There are numerous brands on the market to suit everyone’s budget and style. You can use it daily or once a week, depending on the directions given.

Remember: everything in moderation. It will improve the color over time, and people will be more drawn to you simply for having whiter and brighter teeth.

8. Check your medication

Certain medications, such as excessive use of antibiotics, can not only do long-term damage to your organs and immune system, but also to your teeth—especially in children.

Rather opt for natural alternatives for a regular cold and consider antibiotics a last resort for healing ailments that can easily be treated with natural teas or healthy food combinations.

9. Drink plenty of water

This is especially important after drinking coffee or wine. Water neutralizes the acids in your mouth and washes away any leftover residue from your favorite treats. Never leave evidence, and see it as a chance to hydrate at the same time.

It will keep your teeth free from excess food and ensure you maintain fresh breath for longer!

10. Floss daily

Very few people do, but it’s the best way to get rid of any hard to reach bacteria. It keeps your gums healthy, your smile sparkling white and your gut in good condition. Carry an extra floss in your purse and make use of it to maintain your pearly whites—in addition to following the above tips.

Treat your smile like it’s your best friend while it’s still sparkling. Prevention is always better than cure, and you’ll never feel as if you’re breaking the bank while taking care of your teeth the way you should.

Never underestimate what a beautiful smile can do for your career, personal life and confidence, so take extra special care of it for as long as you can!
