How to Break the Ice with a Guy

Thinking of picking up that guy you like? Good for you! Guys love a girl who is fierce and knows how to take matters into her own hands! Here are a few tips on how to break the ice!

Let me paint you a little picture.

You’re in a bar with some girlfriends, and you see a very cute guy. No, scratch that. He’s like a total knockout! He’s so hot you can’t take your eyes off of him.

And he’s looking at you too. But you’re kind of far away. And he’s with some friends too.

Now, you want to talk to this guy so bad, but what can you do? I mean, he has to come to you, he must have seen you throwing eyes at him. That’s an obvious hint you’d want him to come over. While you were up in your head stressing about the fact that nothing’s happened he’s already one foot out the door. Gone. Forever. Just like that.

Okay, this might have been a tad too dramatic but you got my point.

Often, people are too intimidated to make the first move and they pass up on great opportunities ‘cause of that. Granted, it’s not easy for everyone to put themselves out there – most people have some anxiety when it comes to these things. Whether it’s fear of rejection, being judged, worrying about what kind of the first impression you’re making – there’s always something holding you back.

That is why we’re presenting to you, a few super easy ways on how to break the ice with a guy in a casual manner. The key to feeling less awkward about it is to do it without being too aggressive or even too invested – you’re just being friendly and chatting. For example:

Ask Him a Favor

Rather than bluntly showing your interest straight away, get him to help you out with something. Showing interest and putting yourself out there can be scary. You’re basically allowing the other person to choose whether you’re good enough to talk to, or not. This is the main reason we’re intimidated when it comes to approaching handsome strangers.

However, if you do it this way you’re actually getting him to invest a little bit first. You’re not putting yourself up for his judgment, which makes it so much easier. And it doesn’t have to be a big thing. On the contrary, any small request should work. He’ll do it. You’ll smile and thank him. He’ll smile. You’ll introduce yourself. The story writes itself!

Comment on Your Surroundings

For example, if you’re in a store and you’re both looking at the same shelf say something like “They have the best stuff here!” If he’s interested he’ll answer and you can try and hold the conversation.

The best thing is – you’re not doing anything that would make you uncomfortable. You commenting on something while standing next to him does not necessarily mean you’re interested. Plus, it’s completely casual and okay to do in many different settings – like a bar, a market, a tech store, a coffee shop…

Ask Him a Question

Again, by doing this you’re putting him on the spot rather than letting him know straight away that you like him. You’re making him think about his answer and the whole first impression thing. In this case, you’re the one ‘evaluating’ him. It’s way easier than pretty much giving up your power, so to say, and putting yourself completely out there! If you’re lacking ideas, here are questions to ask a guy. But, make sure you don’t go overboard with the questions. Keep it light and easy.

With these techniques, the approaching doesn’t have to be such a scary thing. You should be able to use one or all of these basically anywhere, anytime. And the best thing is – if done right there’s just no way you won’t get a good response. Even if it doesn’t lead to dates every time, it’s very good for boosting your confidence, getting rid of anxiety, and learning to take some chances.
